BaselWorld 2014 - Konstantin Chaykin

Apr 01, 2014,23:35 PM

Independent watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin is a true fireworks of ideas.  He has more than 50 patents of which only a portion has been exploited up 'til now.  This year it is Father Time with his traditional implements who has the honour. The interesting finesse, the minutes are read in the hourglass as the sand falls.

The movement is a complete Chaykin development. Also new this year is a new version of his Jewish watch with counter clockwise display and Hebrew inscriptions.

From last year we see the Periods of the Day watch.  Each period of the day, night, morning, day and evening is shown on the dial with just the 6 corresponding hours.

Konstantin is also very proud of his tourbillon table clocks with day and date.  Simple and consummately finished, they are very satisfying.

Love the romance of his "Father Time", but what blew me away was the breadth of talent shown in his other creations. He certainly does not have a "type"!

Very interesting indeed! Do you know how the hour glass is reset after the hour? Is there a video showing how it works? Thanks
