Lang & Heyne is known, but I guess quite a few haven´t heard about UWD and tempus arte yet

We (Oliver & Magnus) are aware of some serious collectors of watches from Lang & Heyne (Dresden; Saxony) here at PuristSPro, but still we don´t speak that often about them. The low amount of watches available might be a reason. They are in the market for about twelve years and today they produce about 30 to 40 fine watches per year - only.

Marco Lang is one of the founders of L&H and today he is (still) the mastermind behind the brand, with lots of ideas all the time. He is known for his passion for fine watchmaking and is one of the members of AHCI (Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants). Even more he is also the head of a relatively new watch group called tempus arte. Lang & Heyne is part of the group and so is UWD (Uhren-Werke-Dresden) and the watch boutique tempus arte (former Hartdingwink).

UWD – a supplier of high-quality German watchmaking and is based in Ullersdorf/Dresden. In Basel 2014, while talking with Marco Lang, we decided to pay them a visit and so we did some month ago. It is always great to see something from the beginning and lucky us we found some extra-time to do the trip. Magnus took the plane to Berlin and together we took the train to Dresden.

Even when not everything was ready, it was more than promising what we saw.

More than 15 people working in CNC-production, assembling, finishing and administration already. We also saw some impressive (especially for such a “small” company) machines like Almac S700 CNC, Bumotec S191 7-axis, TORNOS SwissNano or BMF Twister to mention only a few.

The level of in-house production is amazing, even compared to very well-known companies in the industry. It is not hard to imagine that they are serious about what they want to do now and in the future.

A quite special movement is also in the making and the first prototypes have been shown in Basel. We will come back with more details about all of this, later.

Tempus Arte Boutique – a shop for fine watches & jewellery, based in the center of Dresden. Some of you may remember the former shop called Hartding (Oliver reported about it some time ago) and this is the evolution of it, which will be opened Saturday 20th September 2014. Because of the opening we decided to go to Dresden once more and we will share our visit with you afterwards.

If you happen to be nearby this Staturday, we would be happy to meet you there. It is not only the opening of the boutique with brands and brand representatives of Lang & Heyne, Gellner, Kudoke, Waldmann, Zeitwinkel, Andersen Geneve, Lehmann, Sinn Christian van der Klaauw, Frank Jutzi, Philippe Wurtz and Leinfelder, there will be also a shuttle to visit Lang & Heyne in Bühlau/Dresden and UWD in Ullersdorf/Dresden. If you would like to get an insight, this is a great opportunity. Just send a PM to us (either Oliver or Magnus), before.

Now we are looking forward to it and wish you all a great start into the week.

Oliver & Magnus

An informative post on a quality watchmaker - and not the commercial mass-market type.
