Greubel Forsey: unveiling of a new Art Piece: Hommage à Robert Filliou

Thanks to Greubel Forsey, I could attend this evening the opening cocktail of the exhibition Chapeaux / hommage à Robert Filliou which took place at the Galerie La Vitrine am in Paris. The question you may have is to understand the link between this exhibition and Greubel Forsey. First of all, this exhibition was initiated by the Time Art Gallery Greubel Forsey which was then invited by the Galerie La Vitrine am to display it.

I need to explain the context of the exhibition. In order to celebrate the memory of the French artist who contributed to the Fluxus movement (a contemporary art movement), 14 artists decided to participate to this event and to create an art piece with a common base: a hat. Among these artists, Yoko Ono, Thomas Hirschhorn or Ben... a superb initiative led by the Time Art Gallery Greubel Forsey! We can feel with the involvement of the Time Art Gallery all the passion for Art from Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey, a passion which is also perceptible in their watchmaking creations.

Greubel Forsey takes advantage of this context to accompany the 14 artists and to present a new Art Piece creation... obviously a Piece Unique which symbolizes the meeting point between watchmaking art and contemporary art.

To be frank with you, I was expecting basically a similar base than the Art Piece 1 with a specific micro-sculpture by Willard Wigan. I was wrong!

Of course, Willard Wigan expressed once again his incredible skills to offer a stunning micro-sculpture of a hat... of course.

But forget the blue design of the Art Piece 1...

The Art Piece Hommage à Robert Filliou manages to catch the specific atmosphere of the artist with a bronze dial and a kind of stamp on it. A very original visual effect!

The Tourbillon, as usual, offers us a spectacular and mesmerizing show:

The left part of the watch is dedicated to the micro-sculpture: its base and the magnifying lens system.

But did you expect a mere hat from Willard Wigan? No... this hat is like magic! I can imagine the difficulties he faced to create these elements which are popping out from the hat.

The magnifying lens system:

The caseback with the artists silhouettes involved in the exhitibion and in the Art Piece:

Did you find the silhouettes of Robert Greubel and of Stephen Forsey? They are just above the "Art Piece" engraving.

The guests could manipulate this movable holder to enjoy the Art Piece:

The main interest of the exhibition was to compare the different styles, ideas and creations of the artists who all used the same base.

Do you want to understand the influence of Robert Filliou on Contemporary Art? Easy, just read this:

The structures put in place inside the gallery were holding several creations:

Thanks to Yoko Ono, it was possible to make a wish... I think that the wish to own a Greubel Forsey watch is a good one...

I didnt forget to shoot some wristshots during the event!

On Stephen Forsey's wrist:

On Guillaume Tripet's wrist:

In front of the Art Piece:

And on the wrist of Sylvain Van Muylders:

I would like to thank a lot the Greubel Forsey team for the invitation: it was for me a pleasure to attend such event, far from the usual watchmaking cocktails and which highlighted the fact that watchmaking can be very close to art when practised with such approach and such care to details.

and so true. Now about that Tourbillon's spectacular and mesmerizing show? How does that work? Should one tick one of the option, "bien fait", "mal fait", "pas fait"? I would go for "Pas Fait", or then perhaps one more option should be added like: "Le Tem...

Thanks for this report FX

It shows outstanding details and doesn´t look "shy", still it is understated - at least to me and for what it is. The colours, the finishing (especially on the back of the movement) and the Barennia strap - I like them a lot. Thanks a lot for sharing such...

It's an interesting addition to the brand's activity to communicate about art in general (MB&F's art gallery etc) More and more we see watchmakers collaborate with artists on a project. It's a good thing imho. Cheers, Mark
