Kari Voutilainen Obervatoire
Jan 17, 2010,07:52 AM
My first post on this forum. I have just received the Observatoire watch from Kari. I love the design. It is however when you get very close that you see the real workmanship and the magic. I would like to share some pictures with you.

I do not know how the hands are made either. I will ask Kari.
The hands
By: InkRose : January 17th, 2010-13:36
The hands are actually made of a few parts. The body of the hands is gold usually (presumably excepting ones with a blue body), and the blue parts - the rings and 'centers' - are indeed heat blued steel, with the bevels and countersinks being polished aft...
Interesting, thanks!
By: nikolaj : January 17th, 2010-13:47
I was guessing that maybe the entire hand was blued and then polished in various places to remove the colour again. But it's in several pieces huh? Learning every day Thanks Inkrose Nikolaj
Congratulations, Morten!

The Observatoire is a dream piece for many people (including me). While most will never own one, your pictures allow us to delve more deeply into the movement and dial. Your pictures of the movement in particular are so luscious. I feel like I could just ...

From the dial to the movement, there is nothing else to do than admiring the work and the finish on this piece. I specially love the two tone hands. That is really original, and sublime. Best, Nicolas

I love that combo--WG with gray dial. And I have to say the blue details on the hands just pop in your pics against the gray dial. I can never get enough of pics of the Observatoire, front or back. Enjoy that wonderful watch. So simple yet so incredible.
A beautiful watch...

The manufacturing of the Observatoire hands
By: Morten : January 18th, 2010-10:01
Kari has sent me a description of the manufacturing process of the hands for the Observatoire watch and some photos which he took today as illustration. I hope my summary is correct. The hands are made by white gold and steel. The rings are made from stee...
Thank you Morten and Kari!
By: nikolaj : January 20th, 2010-00:40
for taking the time to respond so detailed to my question further up in this thread. I am deeply fascinated by the amount of work and patience that goes into the production of these hands and I can only imagine what is required to end up with the entire w...
Really nice - Is your dial....
By: asg : January 18th, 2010-13:02
Grey in color? Or is it made of Ruthenium or some other material? I am wondering what color Kari calls your dial as it looks different than some of the other Grey dials he's made. Nice watch - snazzy, classy and all the business! Wear it well! Best, asg
Kari calls the color of the dial "grey antracite"
By: Morten : January 18th, 2010-13:20
The color of the dial changes according to the light. In warm indoor light it may look warm grey or slightly brown. In daylight it looks clear cold grey - as in the the pictures I posted. Morten
Morten, my hearty congratulations to you................
