Two fresh photos of the Observatoire

Jun 04, 2013,11:49 AM

Greetings to all!  Kari performed a routine service on this piece in January, and to my eye it's looking better than ever:

_DSC3367v4

Observatoire rear 1 v5

There's an earlier version of the latter photo on the Macro Monday thread, but I've since played with the white balance to ensure that both photos look like the actual watch smile

As always, all comments and suggestions welcomed!  I do have to say that I continue to be amazed by the resolving power of the Nikon D800E, here used with the 85mm PC-E tilt-shift lens.  The movement shot is a stack of two images, and the dial shot is a single image.

Best,

Gary G

Nothing new under the sun, this is a fantastic watch. A hot piece for many of us. Lucky fellow you are! Best, my friend. Nicolas.

Hope you get one!

The first time I saw a photo, I knew I needed to have one and immediately called Kari -- very, very happy to have this piece in my collection. Best, Gary

It's the light...

Lots of practice on getting the lighting correct, and coaching from my teacher -- really helps... Best, Gary G

Amazing piece!

Made even better under your superb lens work. That sharp clean look, yet warm and non- industrial/commercial! Really quite difficult to,achieve. Gary, a suggestion if I may. Perhaps, u could also move into wrist shots. That way u will have the full repert...

Ah, wrist shots

Not yet my strength! That said, I have "won" the Friday wrist scan a couple of times (the wrist shot category) -- but I still have a lot of learning to do there. Thanks very much for your kind words -- I'm still on a steep learning curve! Best, Gary

Both the watch and the photographs are magnificent.....

I have a long way to go in the watch photography field. Feel free to post pictures like these any time. Darren

We are all learning

I've also had the recent benefit of a (still ongoing) set of lessons -- but I have a way to go as well, to be sure! Thanks for your post! Best, Gary

...and a partridge in a pear tree!

Thanks, Horo -- you'd be surprised how often people write to ask "which camera and lens?" and "did you stack?" any time I don't include the mumbo-jumbo. Feel free to ignore :-) Looking forward to your VH report... Best, Gary

Yet again...

... I am inspired by your photography skills! These shots make me want a Voutilainen even more than I already do. How is that possible? - Scott

Brilliant photos Gary!
