New Boxsters are bigger - but heavier, not so much...
So I used to have the first gen 986 boxster and I've got to say that although my new 981 Boxster S is longer and wider, the weight is actually about the same at around 2950ish lbs.
The longer wheelbase leads to a more refined and balanced ride - the best way to describe the different generations is that the basic driving dynamics are the same, but they just keep turning the dial up to "11" every time. If you've had seat time in the 986, 987 then the 981 will be instantly familiar but with just more. I am assuming that the Boxster Spyder is the same - just more GO but less comfort bits.
I really loved the previous 987 gen Boxster Spyder, but that roof was an absolute joke. At least this one is mechanical but abeit with the manual opening of the trunk to stow the roof...
I would love to have the bigger 3.8l Spyder engine with but with all the pleasantries and comforts of the regular boxster s/gts.
Also those carbon buckets are really nice, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to give up heat and cooled seats just for those..
