They are totally different. Co-Axial is double-impulse escapement, where one impulse is direct and one impulse is indirect.
Breguet's construction is single-impulse direct escapement, similar to Audemars Piguet Escapement and Urban Jurgensen Detent Escapement.
Detent escapement is regarded as one which deliver the greatest timekeeping accuracy.

Is Breguet's 'new' detent escapement somewhat similar to the co-axial technology escapement (or maybe I read somewhere that the co-axial is a type of detent escapement)? That gearing looks similar. And Swatch owns Breguet and Omega and uses co-axial...any...

I had heard that Dr. George Daniels considers the detent escapement to be the best and most elegant of all escapements, but the co-axial uses less lube and is more accurate (?). I'll have to break out my notes on escapements and re-read. Fascinating! =:^D

Is a sensitivity to shock. If you hit it at the wrong time in the cycle, it can unlock the escapement wheel entirely and skip ahead. I think the issue is one of direction, in a lever or a coaxial, the locking can happen with the escapement lever moving in...

very cool, thanks! (nt)
