Baselworld 2013: GoS Winter Nights for Purists

 By: foversta : June 26th, 2013-14:10
The watchmaker Patrick Sjögren and the bladesmith Johan Gustafsson met in 2007 and very quickly they decided to combine their talents to produce watches that would highlight their shared passion for traditional Scandinavian crafts. For several years the G...

I am deeply impressed by this watch.

The decoration, the finish, the concept, the movement, the size, I love all on this watch, except one small detail which is not a big deal, though: The size of the hands, which I find a bit too short for the dial. That may well be my first Independant wat...

Thanks for your comments.

About the hands length, it is ok for me. For two reasons: the distance between the ends of the hands and of the indexes doesn't surprise me too much and the hours hand seems to rotate within the limits of the main dial pattern. I think that it is a good p...

Probably NOT but it would be illogical to do so

Ronald, The raison d'etre of Gustafsson & Sjögren watches is the combination of skills from watchmaker and master metalsmith. The forged steel case, dial, and (now)....movement plates....are unique features . Simply buying an etched iron meteorite dia...

The key word to define any GoS watch is craftsmanship... Fx

A wonderful report

Thanks Fx for a wonderful report on what I consider a very unique watch. The watch is absolutely splendid save for one small detail. I find the dial and the case and the movement all finished in Damascus steel a little overwhelming. Had GoS done the watch...

Thanks Dean for your comments.

It is a bit surprising to speak about the H11 in the same thread than with the Winter Nights but I think I understand your point of view. It is also the reason why the "working indicator" replaces the second hand and why the hands are not so long: the dia...

The words 'pushed' and 'edge' are dangerous in combination

 By: MTF : June 30th, 2013-17:24
:-) spellbound, Even amongst each 'batch' of Winter Nights watches, there are differences. You may find one that is not so "overwhelming" and that paisley shirt is not needed. I like the ones with multicoloured highlights (no gold dial) but for more subtl...

I do worry

 By: Spellbound : June 30th, 2013-17:36
I do worry that I sent GoS an e-mail inquiry about possible customization of a piece through their website over two weeks ago, and got an automated response saying they would get back to me shortly. But no response thus far. There are obviously good point...

Hum, it is very surprising...

Thanks Patrik, And appreciate the PM. Have responded. Absolutely love your creations and looking forward to being able to see and feel one for real. Dean

Thank you FX for this very elegantly written review.....

the watch is superb firstly as a piece of art almost a painting and secondly as is the case for a painting there cannot be two equals, therefore it's uniqueness makes it....well...unique:) It is so refreshing to see so many new horological samples popping...

The new kangaroo chief will not be as fun as Julia! Anyway, I think your comment about the use of silicium in the Winter Nights is right. Thanks François! Fx

FrX, I believe that the new....er...returning old Chief Kangaroo is a lot more fun than the outgoing ' flyer ' kangaroo. After "knifing a mate" to get into Office, Julia was found out to be lacking. Actually as a Welsh national, I should be supporting the...
