Full throttle: MB&F HM5 On the Road Again

 By: foversta : December 4th, 2012-05:04
After the LM1 that initiated within the MB & F collection a new line of Machines less radical and yet so inspired, Max Büsser and his friends are back at the end of 2012 with the latest Horological Machine, the HM5 "On the Road Again". Since 2005, the...

Thanks for the sneak peak Xavier

Looks very futuristic like the previous HMs. How is the lume of the digits? cheers PAt

A new MB&F is always exciting....

... but I understand your point as after the first enthusiasm felt when discovering what is hiding behind the scene, my hunger didn't feel compeltly satieted. It is may be too well-behaved for an HM. But compared to previous HM, this one is purer in its d...

safe to say then tha

being sucker for all thing 70ies (and 80ies) I like it Somehow on first glance it reminded me of Urwerk on second inspection it is novelty and good one Playing the card of originality is strongest asset of MB&F Bravo from me and thank you very much fo...

Great report FrX! Wish I could have been there...

However, we went down this road with the Opus 8..... NO! After the brilliance of the HM4 - and it is brilliant for so many reasons - this is not the follow on I was hoping for. It definitely has the retro feel in terms of design - I had a watch so very mu...

Leaves me Flat.

I'm clearly not the target for this, since without the nostalgic memories of the 70s, that aesthetic is not nearly as compelling, but even with that, I just don't feel this one lives up to the high bar set by HM1-4. It feels like he used 40 years of techn...

I find it interesting but not compelling me to drop everything. ..

And order one. How is the visibility under various lighting conditions if you have less than perfect vision? Does the movement support setting the time on the minute? Any chance of viewing one in the metal?

Thanks Fx.

Always good to get a first peak at a new MB&F. I feel a little Urwerk influence here but that is not such a bad thing. I don't understand the louvres and its intended purpose except for possibly evoking memories of past supercars like the Lambo Miura....

Leaves me cold...

An interesting display no doubt. But, very little to offer in terms of legibility. In fact the minutes look cluttered and the overall display doesnot show harmony. The GP caliber, at first glance from the photos look very under-finished. At best this watc...

See you Friday Best, Horo

If this is priced

 By: cen@jkt : December 5th, 2012-10:23
at hm2 or 3 level, I need to fly to the dreaded horological den in the neighbouring country asap! but if it priced at hm4 level, i will just quietly keep my credit card back to my bottom. cen@jkt

Mixed Feelings

 By: Whirling : December 5th, 2012-15:02
I do like it more after some extra time looking at the photos than I did initially, but MB&F's other pieces set an awfully high bar. Some of the other MB&F watches are quiet whimsical, but this watch just seems a little odd. Why do I want a watch ...

I don't know...

 By: cen@jkt : December 6th, 2012-09:42
whether you were answering my post or the esteem moderator post. But assuming you replied to my post, then my reply would be: 1. I like it because it's fun 2. I never own a Lambo, whether it's northbound or southbound. But I know they are beautiful and im...

How soon?

Say, next tuesday? :) cen@jkt

I like it ...

Hi All, I look forward to the new MB&F releases each year (just as I do the HW Opus pieces). Not all of them I love, of course, but it seems to me there is a consistent vision in many of the watches that has something to say to us. And I like timepieces t...

Max can do much better than this!

 By: ling5hk : December 6th, 2012-02:30
Therefore, I am not sure whether HM5 is a successful machine, intelligently designed with excellent perceived quality. Nothing here excites me in terms of the watch case, movement and time display. Regards Ling

A bit Zzzzzz

It is interesting reading everyones comments both positive and negative. For me I find it a little disappointing.... The magic of HM1, 2, 3 and 4 but for me this does not quite seem to be there. I am sorry to say this as I am a huge fan of Max's creations...

Well...

 By: RobCH : December 7th, 2012-02:38
certainly some mixed reactions here...! Coincidentally, I went and had a look at it yesterday in the metal, and I was pleasantly surprised, so I came here to post and look who just posted... I was with Andrew when we first llooked at the pics a couple of ...

I will hold off on my 100% judgement then Rob...

Until I see it in the flesh! Didn't have a chance to pass by MAD this week, but hopefully will next week. Will report my final judgement then ;-) Cheers Andrew

I like it. But at this point, I wish to save and buy another one more HM1 and another HM4. Just came back from looking at some really GOOD pieces of art at an Italian exhibit, and after looking...I would search out anyone who wishes to sell his/her HM1 or...

Plenty around Bernard...

 By: andrewluff : December 8th, 2012-01:26
I saw the black HM4 was still for sale in London a few weeks ago and I think Max has one in MAD as well! One HM4 for each wrist.... Now that is true double trouble! Cheers Andrew
