Can't believe - cold in LA!

Dec 08, 2009,07:28 AM

Hello, Daos, it is really strange to me... We got approx 6 inches of snow yesterday in few hours.. Traffic in Moscow stopped till late evening (better to say - till very early morning wink

So now I got some warmness from Purist's conversations.

As for Romain watches - in general I like and appreciate them much - that's why there are points of interest and something to talk about.

Cheers - Alexey

...of watches! Recently, I enjoyed dinner with a few other watch enthusiasts and Romain Gauthier, who kindly presented examples from his Collection Prestige. It was a fun evening full of good food, good company, and good conversation about watches of all ...

Great report

Thanks for sharing the report, Daos. I for one, really like the look of the movment. in fact, I kind of prefer the rear view to the front view of this watch. Cool Futurematic and Freaky hidden crown located on the back. I also like the way you described t...

Thanks for reading the post! It was a wonderful evening, and I really enjoyed the opportunity to meet some fellow enthusiasts, chat with Romain and handle his unique and wonderful watch in person. I find his watch to be very warm and welcoming. There's an...

Romain Gauthier is one of these very few Independants who really speaks to me.

 By: amanico : December 7th, 2009-06:04
Along with De Bethune and PSM, I don't only respect his production, but I admire it! I see this watch as a kind of modern reinterpretation of the JLC Future Matic, with the crown on the case back. The finish of the movement is outstanding, as well as the ...

You and I share similar taste in Independents

 By: dxboon : December 7th, 2009-22:45
I very much like PSM and De Bethune, as well. To me, both those brands, along with Montres Romain Gauthier are walking to the beat of their own drum -- marrying lovely traditional decorative techniques with modern design and a strong viewpoint. IMO these ...

Great food!

It was an enjoyable dinner! I relished meeting my fellow aficionados and Romain Gauthier also. He was a very charming spokesman for his watch. Cheers, Daos

Excellent post, DAOS, excellent watch... only 3 "but".

All of You may not agree with me, all of You will not agree with me, but... "But One" : I do not like logo did with using of font (or evidently similar), supplied with almost every typesetting program under Windows (may be Mac also? I do not know, but alm...

Hi Alexey!

It's the * grand * signature that does me in completely: the sweeping tails of the "R" and the "G" and the towering plume on the "h". H. Moser is just the same - and ruins their watches for me, despite technical innovations. As for all of your three point...

:-) Hi, Amerix!

Thanks again for your thoughts! I always enjoy reading your posts. If you could make some design changes to the Collection Prestige, what would you choose to do? I'd love to hear your ideas. Cheers, Daos

Urn burial

Hi Daos, Thank you for the kind words. I shall try my best never to irritate or bore you! I have been staring, for what seems like days, at the dial of this Prestige. My overall impression is - monumental, eternal - like the urns on display in a funeral p...

Another great post, Amerix!

I enjoyed reading your thoughts. You have some interesting ideas about opening up the dial on the Prestige. I love this type of civilized discussion about design. Everyone has an eye, and a heart and mind with which to observe the small works of art that ...

Hi Alexey, The crown on the back was I freely admit, initially disturbing for me too, however since learning about the reasoning from Romain, I understand the why and it makes sense for this design. I too thought the lack of a traditional crown at 3 o'clo...

It is interesting to hear your perspective, as I know you've spent some time around this particular timepiece. There certainly are some polarizing design elements (rear crown winding system, eccentric dial, unusual movement architecture) on this watch, bu...

The "invisible" crown....

 By: Quarks : December 9th, 2009-05:22
I, too, am skeptical about point no. 3. I think overall, the watch looks a little "off' without the crown. I may take a while to warm up to but seeing the watch in person, it looks fantastic but quite odd and "incomplete" in terms of aesthetics without th...

I really enjoyed it -- and believe me, I know the struggles of trying to get decent photos in a restaurant setting -- well done, especially the candle shot! I wasn't able to see Romain on his visit to San Fran (family commitments) but remain a fan of his ...

This short post of mine amounts to no more than a hill of beans...

Some thoughts.

The dinner and conversation were both a treat. Meeting Romain and listening to him, it's clear that he is a serious young man who is dedicated entirely to designing and manufacturing technically innovative, efficient mechanical movements. It seems to me t...

A good time was had by all, I believe. There's a lot about the world of independent watchmaking that appeals to my sensibilities. Your recent De Bethune thread is another example of a company that I greatly admire. Cheers, Daos
