FWIW....

I have owned the 5970G and 5970P - both dont speak to my heart as much as this:

She is just back from her first spa treatment in Geneve - That is one thing I really like about patek - they really make your piece perfect when you send it in for service.

I find the warmth of the rose gold case the perfect compliment to one of the most romantic complications available.  This piece does not get as much love as its white metal brothers, but she is by far the prettiest girl at the ball to me.

I also am partial to the 5070R - a beautiful watch.  The G and P to me, are all business, all the time - I prefer my pateks to be a bit warmer.

Some pictures and thoughts on the 5970.

 By: amanico : May 23rd, 2012-02:15
I recently had the pleasure to see a 5970 in the flesh, and to play with it a whole afternoon. My interrogation was to know if, for a 5070 owner, the 5970 was not a bit too " redundant ". After all, the 5970 is a Chronograph, too. But not only, as you all...

I concur with all your points except one

 By: 4Js : May 23rd, 2012-03:36
I have been through your analysis in my mind what seems like forever. I want to focus on your last comment. I disagree that changing to the 5970p swings the analysis. The base strengths of the VC over the 5970 are still there. The swing factor to the soul...

The strange thing i that I don't feel the 5970P as a popular piece.

 By: amanico : May 23rd, 2012-04:46
It seems that many prefer the 5970G to the P. While I tend to prefer the P over the G. To each his own;, I presume. As for the choice between the VC and the PP QP Chrono, I can say that I would be happy, very happy witth any of these 2. Both would be an i...

That's becuase you and I love the black dials

 By: 4Js : May 23rd, 2012-08:11
But yes, when you look over the Purists posts, it seems more own the g over the p. I've seen both in the flesh. I'll still take the p. Something else, the cost upgrade to get a p is crazy, not that a g is for the faint of heart! Joe

Marvellous pieces

 By: cisco : May 23rd, 2012-03:52
Thanks for your post Nicolas For the comparison between 5070 and 5970 they are so different, nearly opposite. The 5070 is strong, catch your eyes and you heart, hate it or love it. Strength because of its case and dial, class imho goes with this fantastic...

Forgot the Vacheron !

 By: cisco : May 23rd, 2012-03:58
Between 5970 and VC this is a bit the same story like between the 5070 and the 5970, personnality against perfection. Complicated... cannot compare them, I prefer the sensual curves of the Patek case, but the Vacheron Dial is to die for. For me they are e...

I totally agree on your opinion about the last offers from Patek.

 By: amanico : May 23rd, 2012-04:50
I much prefer the 5070 and 5970 to the new versions, too. Each of these Chronos offers a lot of pleasure to their wearer / owner. As for the Vacheron, it is a sublime piece. Let's say that the bad thing is the dilemma, and the good thing is that you can't...

I agree on the 5270

 By: 4Js : May 23rd, 2012-08:08
Saw it in the flesh at AD, and I was wearing my VC. The dial material and the layout were to me not as beautiful to me as a 5970 Joe

Another great post Nicolas

 By: SteelerFan1965 : May 23rd, 2012-03:56
I love the 5970P and wish I could add it to my 5070P. Who knows what the future holds. I also love the VC and with either one of these one can't lose. Thanks for sharing my friend!

I agree that once you own the 5070P, the 5970P is a very tempting choice.

What a Duo it would make! Best, my friend. Nicolas This message has been edited by amanico on 2012-05-23 04:53:01

No doubt!!

Both are great

 By: TeutonicCarFan : May 23rd, 2012-07:02
IMO, patek perpetual calendars are a perfect blend of style, sophistication, and elegance. They got it right and continue to use the same ingredients. The VC on the other hand has a more playful attitude, with the malte lugs, and grain finished dial. Both...

Totally agree on the VC Moonphase.

 By: amanico : May 23rd, 2012-07:25
Thanks for voicing in. The 3970 is another stunner, indeed, and I would have dreamt to be able to commpare it to the VC 47112. Best, Nicolas

Buy all three! ;)

 By: TeutonicCarFan : May 23rd, 2012-08:58
I agree, incomparable! What I was trying to say, is that I like the VC because it is more "fun" and I like the moonphase. So, between the two posted I'd go VC. What I didn't convey well, was that it's not a fair fight for the PP 5970 because I'd always wa...

We are all entitled to our own sentiments and first love, don't you think?

 By: amanico : May 23rd, 2012-09:00
It is not fair for the following loves, I agree. Best, Nicolas

Love the 5970G

 By: patrick_y : May 23rd, 2012-09:47
I love the 5970G and I strongly advise all owners of said watch to play with the watch strap colors. If you try different colors, such as blue, black, gray (all available from Patek Philippe) you may realize that you might like the watch even more than yo...

I concur. Funny how brands didn't get that, already.

 By: amanico : May 23rd, 2012-11:59
At the exception of Panerai, but this is not a surprise. The 5070 / 5970 Duo is a nightmare of Temptation, yes. Best, Nico, just Vladed.

I was just looking at a summary of this thread

 By: 4Js : May 23rd, 2012-18:44
18 months ago there would be at least three times as many responses. Where are all those 5970 and 5070 lovers? I was hoping for a whole new round of great pix! Let's keep this great thread going!

I will certainly have to take better pics of the G and P, Joe.

 By: amanico : May 23rd, 2012-21:58
I will ask to their owner if they can bring the peices with them. My pics are so so. I would love to hear the new PC Chrono owners, here, to say all. I tjink it may be interesting to hear their opinion in this compariosn with VC, and with the former PC Ch...

The 5970 has always been one of my favourite Pateks

 By: Topcat30093 : May 24th, 2012-05:35
The balance of the dial is just perfect for me. I used to hanker after the P what with it's black dial. But the after seeing one side by side with the silver dial G, I realised that the G was just so much better to read. The black dial of the P is stunnin...

Funnily I have no problem to read it, since I don't buy watches to read the time, BUT

 By: amanico : May 24th, 2012-06:36
To Admire it. Best, my friend. Nicolas This message has been edited by amanico on 2012-05-24 06:37:39

Trademark that! ;)

 By: TeutonicCarFan : May 24th, 2012-10:40
This just in, the next patek ads.... Giving the select few who don't need to read the time, the luxury of admiring it. Best, Kevin

powerfull reply!

 By: Fricks : May 24th, 2012-14:41
reading time comes after, especially that if you tend to get lost in admiring it, the notion of time is subjective. Good one!

Well, there are some limits, indeed, but I strongly believe that if

 By: Fricks : May 25th, 2012-06:54
... accuracy. Jst that time is everywhere these days, and a watch is now much more than a machine that gives time, regardless of how accurate it is. I believe that giving time goes without saying but it comes in 2nd.... Reminds me a little of Porsche slog...

Ain't that the truth.........

Hi my friend, For me the 5970 is the most beautiful Patek Philippe chrono with the Lemania calibre. I'm in love with the P but your G pictures are quite tempting too. I prefer it to the 5270, but the 5204..... Best Dje

I had the pleasure to play with the P for a few hours and ...

 By: amanico : May 24th, 2012-21:24
I have to say that I had some guilty thoughts which crossed my mind... The black dial gives such a character to this still very elegant watch. A winning combination, for me. Best, and thanks for your answer, my friend. Nicolas

From an aesthetical pointo f view, I much prefer the 5970, but it is just a matter of taste, which doesn't mean that one or the other is not a nice watch. It is all about subjectivity. At a high level. Best, Nicolas. This message has been edited by amanic...

the 5970 is a bargain price wise compared to the 5270, almost 50K in most cases.

my preference Nico:

 By: Mech : May 26th, 2012-01:04
it's a no brainer between the 5970 and 5070. The latter has a 'flawed' dial design where having the sub dials cut across 2,4,8 & 10. I can't accept this in any watch, just me. It's a tough fight for me between the Patek and VC, I will still take the 5970 ...

I hear you, Mech. Thanks for voicing in.

There will awlays be imperfections, even with perfect watches. Best, my friend. Nicolas

fully agree Nico and thanks!

just like the Lange, the Dato and the Richard Lange remain the only 2 watches I would own for the same reason Cheers my friend. Mech.

A great post

They both have that ability to spin the wachcollectors mind. Not logical a kind of magic (5970p=black magic) A great post, I really like your pictures and they show clearly that the 5070 and the 5970 are very different by nature. I'm not shure I would tak...

Well, I think that the 47212 is very reprentative of the Vacheron World

 By: amanico : May 26th, 2012-22:56
As well as the 5970 for Patek. They both can be seen as the champions of their category. To know which one we should pick is just a delicious problem... Best, my friend. Nicolas

Thanks Nic for bring up this

 By: Quan : May 26th, 2012-21:08
"old flame" spice with great pictures. I would prefer 5970 vs its younger sis as many agreed 5970 has a perfect dial which is easy to reada and at the same time being admired. I opt for the G eventhou normally I prefer darker dial. While the VC there is t...

As I answered to Mech, there are no perfect watches.

 By: amanico : May 26th, 2012-22:52
The only question is to know if the imperefections are singing to you, or not. As for the 5970 and the 47212, that is the same. They zre not perfect, but they have some indisputable charm. After, tastes and colors, well, you know the story... Best, Quan. ...
