The movement does look beautiful for sure. This launch, however, leaves me disappointed. Why? Because I can't wear this watch. I can visualise the men's version, and that has me salivating, but having worked myself into expecting a men's chrono today, I n...

strange, maybe not used to it, gotta see it in the metal...

... but the hands of the 5960 is the 1st thing that i've noticed. Now we still gotta see the man's version. What a strange strategy to unveil 1st the ladies version, looks like its aimed at teasing us Let's wait and see K This message has been edited by k...

movement thoughts

 By: aaronm : November 5th, 2009-12:15
1. Kinda surprised that they stuck with the traditional, linear clutch although it appears that the intermediate wheel completly disconnects when the chrono is stopped, which is nice, reduce load on the movement when the chrono is not engaged 2. really su...

Not bad but...

 By: scarbov : November 5th, 2009-12:36
Aesthetically not the most beautiful movement in my opinion. From Patek I would expect something at the level of the datograph movement. I hope that the men's version will look better.

imo the Dato is overhyped

 By: Bruno.M1 : November 5th, 2009-13:39
it is a nice movement no question about that but I prefer chono movements like this one. Maybe I'm an exception but I just don't like all those bleu screws and zillion gold chatons. I really do prefer the patek movements (Minerva has a we superb chrono's ...

Haha, that's a good one in the PP forum [nt]

First, I hope it has been debugged before release unlike the previous one. Second, I think those watches are, er, pretty ugly.

try to imagine them without diamonds

 By: Bruno.M1 : November 5th, 2009-13:42
and in a larger case. I LOVE IT It's imo a very nice vintage looking watch Besides, who says the men's watch will look the same ? This is just 1 watch, several will follow and it won't be the same case. Think about a 5070/5970/5004. They will definitely u...

nice movement...UGLY watch!

Yuk...horrid...busy dial, diamonds, weird chrono pushers... only seen the pics of course....but not a fan so far. Looks like a $199 watch from China... Tim

busy ?

 By: Bruno.M1 : November 5th, 2009-14:37
I think you should reconsider your opinion Tim ;-) Like said, imagine this watch without the diamonds and make it 5 mm bigger It's a style we saw in the 1920's - 1930's this is a similar looking piece and I like this We don't know what case they will use ...

now this one i like!

 By: TimAbz : November 5th, 2009-18:01
Let's hope the men's version is more like this!!!! Tim

Not necessarily from CHINA...

There are ugly watches from everywhere in the world. Cheers!

I absolutely agree...

More importantly my wife agrees - her girlfriend agrees. The bigger problem is that women do not want to wind their watches manually. Patek's designers should have been given fake nails and told to try winding their masterpiece.. Women are more practical ...

Agree!

Lovely movement, as expected from Patek... but a masculine looking chronograph dial, with a square case, and diamonds? Urrgh.... Hopefully the men's version is much better. Otherwise this release will become the most overhyped one in the PP forum in a lon...

we are having this discussion......? Trying to imagine what this will look like without the diamonds......... Assuming/hoping there will be some impressive men's models to follow........ What were they thinking? They will have no trouble selling the last ...

My take

 By: asg : November 5th, 2009-20:54
Patek loves building anticipation. Give it to the ladies - make the men want it more. Or - Patek loves screwing with "us". "Normal" people dont think like us. We arent the only people who buy watches. I'm sure some fashion mag will print that this is the ...

She didn't like all the diamonds and thought that it would suit her better without them...........At which point I sighed with relief!! With regards to the movement, it appears to my untrained eye, somewhat tightly packed in. Unlike the Lemania & Datograp...

lets face it, as men are we not going to find the ladies version "fussy". My wife also said she wasnt a fan of the diamonds.

I am not super-knowledgeable about the evolution of movements but from an aesthetic point of view, i like this new watch. i especially like that the diamonds are INSIDE the class. i am always concerned that if they are subject ot nature's bumps/taps one m...

what about the placement of the subdials

 By: gmwu : November 6th, 2009-09:40
I know as WIS, we are busy looking at the movement but what about the placement of the subdials relative to the center of the watch. They are placed slightly lower than the center, not quite Datograph low but noticeable. What does this mean for the eventu...

Good looking movement but the watch needs some getting used to...

My wife does not like it... yet!

Something to provoke

As usual Patek is pushing the envelope. I wonder how this watch looks in the flesh and as such I will reserve judgement until then. Regards Rene

firm message underlying the notion that things will be shaken up now that the younger Stern is the man in charge. I think its a masterpiece move, creating even MORE buzz for the brand. Looking forward to Basel 2010!

Showed the pic to my wife and she..

..likes it better than her friends 24 and I bet its a work of art in the flesh as I always find pictures of PP do not do them justice.
