Rolex Explorer II, how do you like it? Milky or Creamy?

 By: amanico : March 21st, 2015-01:32
16550 / 16570: Forget the Collector thing, just let your heart speak. The creamy dial is extraoridinary, in terms of subtlle nuances. Now the milky dial is not bad, either. The lacquer Roelx used gives a feeling of depth which is also remarkable. What is ...

Normally I take milk with my cup of tea...

but in this case, cream please. Neither is hard to swallow though. :) Best fernando

Both are nice, but I prefer the milky one.

I like the dial on this particular model to be white. It just sings to me more. ...

Yes, the depth of that dial is absolutely stunning.

I still don't understand why it is not more appreicated. Thanks, Luis. Nicolas

Crema!

;) D

Creamy

Cause it is just right.

Tie! [nt]

I prefer...

the creamy, I find that it's very delicate as nuance, less immediate rather the white one, I would say that is a dial you don't look at the time in a while, but you have to "read" the hours dedicating a moment more than the high contrast "black and white"...

Can I take both? LOL

Sorry amanico if I am the "noise" in your survey! ok, fine! if I have to choose, the cream rail dial will be my take :) enjoy either in good health

No doubt, creamy for me !

Yup.. [nt]

Let me guess, too thick fonts on the bezel?

 By: KC74 : March 22nd, 2015-06:16
But cannot compare it to the 2 new classics you showed us. The latest has more advanced materials and development in materials used. Or perhaps it's too orange? Compare it to Basel 2015 introductions of many, quite palatable, no? At least it's not a "smar...

Not a smartwatch. ;)

 By: amanico : March 22nd, 2015-07:16
Naaah, it is the blend of styles, the anachronsim which disturbs me. The big orange 24 hours hand of the 1655, the thick font of the 16550, and the dial borrowed to the 16570. Best, Nicolas

Close call.. Guess, I'd prefer the Crema !.. Why ? - bit more unusual.. ;))

 By: hs111 : March 22nd, 2015-04:17
.. although, as mentioned above this "depth/3D" impression is an asset for all white/ milky. Thus, I might call it a tie, with my personal bias to Creamy.. Best, hs ;)

The Crema, yes please.. The Milky-3D I'll just might have to decide, to keep or let..

 By: hs111 : March 22nd, 2015-04:35
..Yes, starting the list(s) again, for April or such ! ;) Hmmmh.. So many options.. So stringent "diets" at present.. Explo II 16570.. A nice 3D impression, although just plain white Best, my friend hs ...

Thx kindly !.. Pls don't forget the two UN's: Freak & Sonata, if possible !

 By: hs111 : March 22nd, 2015-04:40
.. Both are two remarkable, cool pieces, off the beaten paths.. Thx in advance, again ! Best, hs PS: looking forward to your Basel impressions.. ;)

Yes, Sir.

I stayed in Paris, so no Basel for me, but I closely followed the novelties. I already have some strong favourites. Best, Nicolas

very nice side by side...

 By: GhostInTheMachine : March 22nd, 2015-05:44
Very nice to see both side by side. The bezel font on the creme is more appealing to me, but is more appropriate on the creme and would be too much on the milk. The milk gets it's distinctiveness with the black hands and details on the hour dots. If you c...

A side by side picture is the only way to appreciate both of them.

 By: amanico : March 22nd, 2015-05:56
The delicateness of the creamy dial, the strenght of the font bezel, and the depth of the 16 570. Yes, each of them has its charm. Thanks for your feedback. Nicolas

They are both charming.

The collector thing does have an influence as the cream is far less available and at a strong premium. So the solution is to love the one you can find then dress it up with a nice leather strap and enjoy the white dial. But the cream will always be the cr...

Agreed. No hypocrisis, here. I dreamt to find a nice cream, I found it.

 By: amanico : March 22nd, 2015-08:30
Certainly a keeper. Best, Bill. Nicolas

The cream dial is really fantastic

 By: DrStrong : March 22nd, 2015-09:54
even if I'm not a big fan of the modern Explorer 2, I have to say it's a beauty !

Cream is very nice indeed..

 By: WatchCrazy : March 22nd, 2015-11:06
I have a soft touch for pure white dial.

Thank you, Jeff.

 By: amanico : March 22nd, 2015-11:10

Finally a side by side ...

 By: Echi : March 22nd, 2015-23:20
Been waiting for this! What can i say, i like 'em both! The creamy version has a more subtle charm. The white one with its lacquered surface (which i find really fascinating because it's so elegant) has a more pronounced contrast. The creamy one, more rel...

That was the interest of the side by side shot, indeed.

 By: amanico : March 22nd, 2015-23:25
I agree with you on the current Explorer II... There is something in the size, in the proportions and in the styles which makes me stay away from it... Best, Nicolas

i like the 16550 more than the 16570

 By: gensiulia : March 23rd, 2015-01:08
because of the WG rings and hands, basically. the cream is a premium, naturally. chris

Milk with drops of cream :-)

Right...

I bought it in 1991 hoping my memory doesn't cheat me :-)
