NorCal Kari Klub, aka Voutifest, aka Watchapalooza

Dec 03, 2009,23:57 PM

Below are a few photos from tonight's inaugural meeting of the Northern California Kari Klub -- a group of six collectors who love all things Voutilainen.

While they were at it, they also brought along a few other treats to share, as you will see.

These are a subset of the photos from the event: I'm already up past my bedtime, so the remainder will have to wait until tomorrow...

 1.  At home, getting ready to go.  Wearing correct brand? Check!

2. Table shot.  Six collectors, eight Observatoires, one Cal. 27 -- and what's that interesting looking one at the bottom?

3.  As seen from the reverse -- quite a variety of finishes, balances, you name it...

4. Some (but not all) of the many watches in attendance -- even more mouth-watering than the food!

5.  A wrist shot, of course -- 8 of the 10 Kari's at the dinner

6.  At last -- the elusive collectors revealed!

More details soon!

Best,

Gary G

I was thinking how nice it would be to get a group portrait, but know that many collectors are sensitive about having their faces shown online -- what to do? The night before the event, the idea of printing and cutting out Kari masks came to me -- and now...

Madness..........!

Wow Gary! I can only marvel in awe with such exceptional watches of different variations. All on one table! All of them look absolutely fantastic, different dial colours, metal makes.... madness. Thanks for sharing with us! I see that FP Journe's CS was a...

This pic isn't from last night, but here you go

Although the 38 mm Journe and Kari are the same width, the Observatoire is much thicker and also wears bigger because due to its thin bezel. The 38 mm CS's relatively small bezel also makes the Journe wear bigger than it is. Some have observed in the past...

Excellent combo, Michael!

Wow! Now that's a lineup that would be nice to see atop the dresser in the morning... Best, Gary

Michael, thanks for your invaluable input. And what a collection!! Kari's Observatoire and Dufour's Simplicity stood right out for me! Journe' CS is perfect for me at 38mm and the dial jumps out in this diameter. At 40mm, CS did not have any effect on me....

Great Combo Michael!

My favorite three simple watches from my favorite three independents.

It was fun, Aaron

I brought along my set of a few watches, and was blown away by the stunning selection that the other 5 guys had! Quite a privilege for me to participate. Best, Gary

Also a Dufour Duality! [nt]

I like that almost all the straps shown are well-worn ....

It's nice to see those watches don't spend their lives in the safe... Spectacular collection shots..thanks!

Gotta wear 'em!

Thanks for pointing that out, Eric -- knowing these guys as I do, I would be stunned if they weren't wearing these pieces! The one Observatoire with the shiny new strap had been delivered only that week -- even that one was already in use. Best, Gary G

Gary, I love it!

I wish I qualified to be a "member"! Nice report, thank you! Ken

Thanks, Ken

I was a bit concerned about the "member" bit -- don't want to give the impression that somehow collectors of one brand are "better" than others. And, to know the guys behind those Kari masks is to know that they are among the most open and inclusive parti...

Wow. That must have been a very intoxicating get together.

You had to be there, for sure

 By: Gary G : December 6th, 2009-15:05
The wild thing is that over a period of 4 hours I spent about 10 minutes taking photos -- the rest was non-stop, excited conversation with the other attendees. Intoxicating is the right word for it -- hard to describe, but I think we've all had these expe...

Of course, you've held and photographed that RG Observatoire of mine! I'm still very appreciative of that -- hard to believe it's been a year. Kari is the master -- all the better for us to "impersonate" him in that last photo! All the best, Gary
