Gustafsson & Sjögren at BaselWorld 2010
Date: Apr 10, 2010,11:35 AM - (view entire thread)A partnership between a bladesmith and a watchmaker Gustafsson & Sjögren is an upcoming Swedish Independent brand.
I met watchmaker Patrik Sjögren at BaselWorld.
The signature feature of the Gustafsson & Sjögren watches is the use of hand forged damascus steel for the dials and some other parts. Great care is also given to the case finishing.
Damascus streel is made using layers of different types of steel that are forged together. There are innumerable ways of doing this process each giving new patterns and effects. After treatment in acids can increase the formation of colors in the steel. Each piece is unique.
A selection of damascus steel dials.
The bracelets are made from reindeer hide which is remarkably soft and decorated with traditional ornimentation.
