Shooting Habring2 36mm with various lenses

Aug 12, 2011,05:46 AM

TGIF...  I took a day off and shot the new Habring2 36mm version with various lenses (and cameras) as the new custom strap just arrived.

Nikon D700 + 105mm VR macro: standard macro today, not a great lens, but very convenient with VR (can use as a handheld portrait lens) and good quality.  D700 is my primary body and is great (although a bit heavy with battery grip).

Like the date at 6.

70-180mm macro: regrettably discontinued wonderful macro zoom from Nikon.  Sharp, although a bit slow (but on tripod, not a problem).  Partly skeletonized movement with Habring logo is really charming.

Sharp enough for me.

Black applied breguet numerals + blued second hand as per my request.

Too sharp?

85mm PC-E: also a great lens, tilt + shift lens.  Color is nice, too.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX-5: really not bad at all.

Started discussion October last year.  Took a few months until I made up my mind about the dial design (color, index, numeral, date window, etc.).  And was delivered in July.  So far this is running +1 per day.  Wow!  This is worth every second and every penny it took.  36mm version is highly recommended for those small wristers like me (6.45").  Just right size for these used for dress/business.

Daos, please give my best regards to Richard and Maria, and tell them to visit Tokyo some day soon!

Have a great weekend.

Ken

I really like the combination of dial/hands/numerals that you ended up with--it all works extremely well together. Cheers, Daniel

The process consuemd their time prety much.

I asked for at least 4 rendering generated by computer and took perhaps 2 months. But in the end, their recommendations helped a lot. Printed or applied numerals, silver or black, date at 4:30 or 6 or 3 or.... Very patient people they are! Ken

Thanks...

Thanks for the images - that's a great watch, and 36mm would be just right for me. The Lumix LX-5 is an excellent camera for the size and price, and I'm constantly amazed at the quaity of the images we get from it. The close-up is particularly good. nick

I agree about Lumix 5

Congrats, Ken! I'm so happy for you!

Very interesting to see the lenses/cameras and even better to see this lovely Habring2. I completely approve of your aesthetic decisions regarding the dial and hands. Looks perfect. It would be interesting to take the same posed picture with different cam...

Thanks Andrew!

Yes, I agree it might be more interesting to compare the lenses and camera if taken at the same pose - but then again, I thought, this was not the photography forum, so I just played with them. But thanks for your approval comment. Much appreciated! Ken

Tastefully done Ken

Both watch and pics. are just superb! The 36mm is perfect for you as a dress watch. Is this in SS BTW? Did you ever consider not having a date but a Breguet 6 in its place? Just something I would have a hard time deciding. Big Congrats for such a beautifu...

Thanks! yes, it is SS.

Well, I thought about no-date... But I came to think that I have enough three hands only watches and date would be convenient at the office - so I went with the date! Ken

Very nice watch Ken

The blued seconds hand is a masterful touch. And the 36mm diameter makes for a classic feel. Hmmm, I might need to start thinking about a second Habring soon. Congratulations. Regards, Richard.

Oh, yeah, you should..

 By: KIH : August 13th, 2011-21:02
.... think about the second Habring 36mm is the nice change, looking like a totally different watch, I guess! Ken

Simple and elegant
