Moon on my mind/Independent MOONs?
Feb 14, 2012,11:35 AM
Hi guys,
We talk a lot about how brilliant independent watchmakers are in terms of fine detail... do any make a perpetual calendar with moonphase that stands out for the same?
Debethune... truly amazing moonphase but not my taste.
The Independent watchmaker with the very big strange faced moon whose name escapes me--also not my style.
Van der Klaauw... not my style...
Are there any OTHER Indies out there with classic design or modern/classic design that stand out for artistic merit?
Oh wait!
UJS is one... OK I answered my own question...
Any others? I think this is a very rarely discussed topic, yes?
Thank you.

I love UJS... obviously very classical stuff here. From what I have read, these watches are made at the very highest level. I once passed on one, many years ago, because it was in YG, and at that time, it was unthinkable. It was a very discreet and deeply...

I had not thought of him. I have enormous respect for PSM, but his cases look very thick, very shiny, with giant lugs and crowns... and his dial designs are over the top, IMHO...
VH Classic Janvier
By: Philippe M : February 14th, 2012-13:32
The Vianney Halter Classic Janvier Nr 1 is a very rare watch that features the Equation of Time and the Lunar Cycle. The first complication requires that a calendar is included to the movement. This is done by means of a tempered steel hand that rotates a...

And your description of how it works is really fascinating. Thank you.
Probably my second favorite moonphase
By: aaronm : February 14th, 2012-13:37
is the double-hand one by Vianney Haler, the Janvier. www.watchprosite.com DeBethune is far an away my favorite, but you've already mentioned it) I am not as much a fan of the Paul Geber one, I feel DeBethune has the perfect spherical moon, but it...

I am not a tourby-guy, but oooh-la-la! This reeks of handmade watchmaking! Tremendous photo. I find this watch mouthwatering... But this is not about tourbillions, this is about Independent watchmaker's moon phases, so here ya go....

Oh yeah, Moser
By: Mostel : February 15th, 2012-17:40
thank you, I forgot Moser makes a very unique moonphase. I find it large for the dial, but I also can understand this was an attempt to be different. I would love to see this moonphase in person.
What THE H--!!??
By: Mostel : February 15th, 2012-17:41
That last one--what the H--?? Thank you. I admire DB greatly. But not my style. I admire Sarapeneva (I was referring to him in my orig. post) but that facial expression on the moon is a dealkiller for me.

minimalist to the max. I don't know if I love this rendition of a moon phase though. Thank you!

For me, the icons of the moon phases can be immediately grasped by anyone who from the stoneage, to the Mayas, to a visiter from an other universe - if knowing that it is the moon - our moon - that is represented here. This is the Earth's moon, and where ...

Sorry to have neglected you, Salman!

Yes, the Contemporaine was brought to me personally by Vianney a couple of years ago. It has since retained it's own slot on my winding machine, so that I can view it every day - with it keeping "perfect" time. The size is perhaps 3/4 or less of an Antiqu...
