BaselWorld 2014 - Antoine Martin

Jun 12, 2014,00:20 AM

After the restructuring of his company Martin Braun himself has taken over more responsibilities.  At BaselWorld he showed his new tourbillon, the Tourbillon Astromonique.
The tourbillon movement drives the following displays:
- Sunrise and sunset display, at a location of the customers choice.
- Zodiac sign and season
- Date
- Equation of time
- moon phase
- Day and night
- Power reserve
- Declination as a graphic and in degrees
- Polar shadow.

As is the case for all his watches the balance wheel and pallet level are formed of silicon.

This is an impressive large and massive watch in its 18k rose gold case.

Martin also showed his "Slow Runner" watch which beats at one oscillation a second.  This was new last year.  This watch is fascinating and the slow dance of the tremendious balance wheel which covers almost the entire back of the movement is a joy.  Martin admits, however, that its chronometric performance is not extraordinary. He was talking about 15 seconds a day.  But still, that slow dance can put one in a trance.

Wow, what a design! Looks like an old cult object. I can see the Antigua design from Halter crossed with an uber-Breguet but still a creation on its own. I am a sucker to sunset and sunrise functions anyway but this piece is really having some "weight", a...
