Fine watchmaking „Made in Germany“ by the Tempus Arte Group – Part I

 

With the strategic objective to fortify and advance autonomous watchmaking in Germany, a new horological group, called Tempus Arte Group , was founded in Munich in 2013. Its introduction to the public was celebrated with an event in Dresden, in September, the reason for our report.

Despite their rather modest size the group covers all core trades of watchmaking right from the start: Part of the group is a bona fide fine watchmaker of uncontested repute, Lang & Heyne (Dresden), a precision parts and movement manufacturer, Uhren-Werke-Dresden (UWD; Dresden), a jeweler/watchmaker Leinfelder (München), and as sales outlet, the Tempus Arte Boutique (Dresden; former Hartding 1903; see Oliver´s report here: ahci.watchprosite.com)

Thus, the aspect of independence and autonomy is deeply built into the very heart of the group. More on this in later reports!

During the festivities the new Tempus Arte Boutique had its official opening and it was possible to look behind the scenes at Lang & Heyne and UWD. Not only we (Magnus & Oliver) followed that invitation with great pleasure and at the “peak” was a great event at Schloss Albrechtsburg. In part I of our report we will show you some pictures about the event itself, some pictures of the attending brands (products & people) and some teasers about what is coming next.

For the opening Marco Lang (founder of Lang & Heyne and now head of head of Lang & Heyne and UWD ) gave a short speech, followed by Boutique manager Kim Djapri – a watchmaker itself and some of you may remember him from Lang & Heyne.

The atmosphere was quite relaxed and everybody enjoyed the treasures on display and the (sometimes very passionate ) conversations.

There was even some time to talk (very passionate and in detail) about E 61 – for those who know and are addicted to fine coffee, as well (you can’t see it, but Peter Nikolaus got quite excited about his recently restored Faema (what shall you further say about people who accept long detours because only one filling station (not exactly) on the way home carries the ‚right’ beans...).

Stefan Kudoke, who turned out to quite a ‘renaissance man ’ with fine watchmaking being only one of his many interests and exptertises…

Yours truly did what we (PuristS) are known for …

… looking in (every) detail and taking pictures for sharing with those who could not be there.

Let´s have a (first) look what we got for you:

Lang & Heyne, Markgraf Heinrich – a treat for the eyes of a connoisseur, to say the least

Andersen Geneve – a beauty with a hidden detail

Kudoke – a quite special and unique skeleton work with a slighty morbid charm

Zeitwinkel – a pleasing watch not to underrate in the details

Christiaan Van Der Klaauw – astronomical features for the wrist of a connoisseur. With new backing we are certain a great, smooth milky way is glowing ahead…

Lehmann, Intemporal with power reserve and date – a relatively new proof of German ultra-precision, matched with outstanding design features. An eye-opener that we certainly will come back to, later!

SINN, EZM 13 - probably well-known to the old stagers here and still strong as a brand

Dubey & Schaldenbrand – progressed from their former rather exuberant Art-Deco designs to simpler but bolder lines, while keeping their design language remarkably well...

Leinfelder – a lovely watch for the ladies and probably a brand un-known to most of you. Something we would like to change, soon.

After the “hard work” all day we were treated like kings …

… and got a shuttle to Schloss Albrechtsburg. No - neither we got the Aston Martin nor the Maserati, because both have been just there for pleasing and teasing. We can´t blame anybody to be very honest and you will understand when we you look at the next pictures.

Marco Lang, still giving passionate explanations about his watches. Does this man every get tired?

Beside live music we got very nice food served, one more speech by Mr Spitz, head strategist of the Tempus Arte Group and lots of good and interesting conversations during the whole evening. It was a real pleasure, to say the least.

An evening full of inspiring watchmaking delicacies and epicurean delights has come to its end, still full of thoughts and ideas we were whisked home…

Marco, we don´t know what you were thinking about – late night with great view above the Elbe.

All we know is, you and your team did a great job so far and we wish you all the best for the future.
