New Arrival!!!

Mar 26, 2015,15:51 PM

Finally after 2 years of planning, discussions and watchmaking, I have pleasure in presenting to you my new watch and the latest addition to the orange collection... by none other than Mr Kari Voutilainen.

For those who joined in on HoMe, thank you for your guesses and for helping me pass the last anxious week....

This dial is amazing, depending on the light it goes from light blue to dark blue and even a tinge of green in the right light!

After many discussions with Kari, we found an absolutely perfect case back.  The engine turning is tactile and you want to run your finger around it when it is not on your wrist, on your wrist you do not even feel it.  It will gain a wonderful patina over time and the enamel dot in the middle just finishes it off.

Open it up and WOW!  The movement with the darkened plate and bridges, that huge balance wheel, high polishing and perfection. Kari has really made this unique by not only increasing its size from his standard but also by making new design bridges.

No words for this one... but can anyone guess why the relevance of the serial number...?

and.... of course that special touch in enamel...

The master trying on the watch for the first time!  He said he was surprised how well it fitted even on his wrist and how comfortable it was, I think it is just perfect.

It has been a very loooong road and I will write more about my adventure, but just wanted to share with you all the first real images shot this afternoon on the kitchen table with the sunlight through the window.   As you can imagine, I am over the moon with the new addition, it is everything I could have wanted and more... it is simply exquisite.

I hope you enjoy,
Andrew

PS. the next orange edition has already been found... miles away from this one... any guesses...?

I love the case back and in fact Kari said himself that it turned out to be stunning. A little worrying to do as you have one shot per case back if you make a mistake! Cheers Andrew

Big Congrats!!

What an incredible result. I look forward to learning more about the 2-year process, the back-and-forth, how you decided to move forward with the project, etc. I'm sure the ride was nearly as enjoyable as the end product. (not quite, but nearly.....) Ther...

Seeeing a lot of posts on KVs work, I have also wondered how I would like my ideal design to look. You want it to still be sober, but considering that you are able to flexible with the design, you also want a small/subtle bits of flair. Which the orange o...

Congratulations Andrew!

You design decisions have resulted in a beautiful watch. Don

Not a good picture... but a comparison...

 By: andrewluff : March 27th, 2015-01:33
Snapped in the poor Basel lighting... but the standard KV verses the special one :) Cheers Andrew ...

You solved the size issue...

By: Mark in Paris : March 27th, 2015-09:52
From 39 to ..... 42mm ? Interesting how the case back has been modified to fit the new case size. That's perfect! Cheers, Mark

a little more complex and larger...

 By: andrewluff : March 27th, 2015-10:20
The case size is 44.5mm so the baseplate has been enlarged and new bridges made to fit the case. The standard movement would be dwarfed in this case and it is something I wanted Kari to concentrate on as I hate a watch where u turn it over to see a small ...

I understand...

By: Mark in Paris : March 27th, 2015-11:06
and this is what doing things at 100% is about. It looks great that way and was mandatory indeed. I just saw that you mentioned the movement was darkened, I think it looks nice with the Cotes de Geneve that way. Cheers Andrew. Mark PS: of course it was 44...

Beautiful piece... ...having followed the creation of it, and having seen the (unfinished) dial and (unfinished) movement at Kari's workshop, I finally held it in my grubby little mitts at Basel, and gave it the once over with a loup. And I can honestly s...

What a watch!

 By: tudorctin : March 27th, 2015-01:33
Long time I haven't seen such amazing watch. So pure, simple and distinctive in the same time. I love the contrast between the hunter case back and the darkened plate and bridges. And the blue dial...Beautiful! Congratulations! Constantin

Congratulations on that beauty.

 By: VMM : March 27th, 2015-01:44
I think it's clear, at least for some of us, that every watch KV creates is a master piece, and this is not exception. I love it. Enjoy it! Thanks for sharing. Vte

I would have never guessed in the Home section

By: Mark in Paris : March 27th, 2015-02:34
Well, this is quite a surprise and huge congratulations for this piece Andrew. Kari's watches gather all I like from a watch: the technical features, the finishing and even the classic style which remains unique among other classical designs. I see that y...

Hey men, what a fabulous story you've done!

 By: heartbreaker : March 27th, 2015-04:59
Congratulations, Andrew, I can perfectly understand your emotions... Your new baby is a fabulous piece of art and I'm proud of having witnessed a short step of your journey with Kari, that night in Geneva. See you, Elio

Congratulation on your new acquisition

 By: ztirual : March 27th, 2015-11:52
Kari's work is superb. I personally prefer KV's standard size with wall-to-wall movement. 39mm is about perfect. A question of personal preference, off course. There appears to be now a Ø 37mm, a 39mm and a 44,5(!) cased cal. 28. I notice the 32/40. A ser...

Thank you ztirual!

 By: andrewluff : March 27th, 2015-13:43
This is actually the largest one Kari has made and the size is a one off for me. Actually the photo is a little misleading as it looks like there is a big gap between the movement and the caseback, in affect it is not that big but as the movement is darke...

Many thanks

So often the movement in a big watch gets dwarfed by the case. Such is the case in loved pieces such as the Patek 5070 but why for me, I simply could not keep that one in my collection and fell out of love with it. So kudos to you for asking for Kari to e...
