Photos of the Horological Machine No. 2 launch in Singapore

A year ago, a few guests gathered at a Japanese restaurant in Singapore to see the long awaited Horological Machine No. 1 from Max Busser & Friends. Many were eagerly anticipating the first project from Max since he left Harry Winston Rare Timepieces, after creating the Opus series of complications that made Harry Winston much, much more than a jeweller to the stars.

On November 18, 2007, Max was in Singapore once again, this time to launch the Horological Machine No. 2. The venue was the same restaurant, En Japanese Dining Bar, and guests were once again seated at the same long table. Once again reactions to the latest Horological Machine was mixed, but no one was left indifferent.

I personally like the HM2 far more than the HM1. I like the way it looks and the way it sits on the wrist. It is not nearly as complex as the HM1 which contained a tourbillon and four barrels, but the HM2 is still a double retrograde (minutes and date) with jumping hours and moon phase.

When I first saw the prototype some months ago, the crown mechanism did not sit well with me. It seemed completely unnecessary and incongruent. After seeing a HM2 that is not quite a production piece but almost there, I am more accepting of the crown.
