Independents in Basel 2008: Vianney Halter

By: DonCorson (registered) Friday, April 11th, 2008 - Photo Nav: View All 12 photo(s)

This year Vianney Halter celebrates his 10th year selling watches under his own name.  He has no new model on display this year, but is showing the prototype, or very early production watches of most of his models from the last 10 years.  As prototypes or worn watches these displayed watches don't have the finish of an factory new watch any more, but they are witnesses of 10 years of his work.

It was in 1998 that Vianney first showed that enigmatic watch called the Antiqua, a perpetual calandar.

This was followed by the Classic, a simple three hand center seconds, but with the same design elements and finishing perfection as the Antiqua.

Of course we all know the Halter Goldpfeil

The Trio, a rectangular watch with a big date function followed and fills out the collection known as "Futur Antérieur" or Back to the Future.

And in a small seconds version

Classic Janvier adds the equation of time and moon cycle to the Classic.

Those who have been paying attention will notice there is no Contemperaine among these pictures.  I have to admit that I only started paying attention when back home.  So I didn't ask Vianney about the whereabouts of the Contemporaine prototype.

Another watch collection from the Manufacture Janvier is the HTO Grand Voyageur.
