The WS for the 14th of July - ‘Favorite Brands’ - is live

 By: KMII : July 15th, 2023-05:29
As announced on Thursday this weekend’s WS theme is favorite brands. While most of our collections are filled with watches of many brands it is quite likely that some of those, their stories and ours with them, lead to a higher appreciation. So let’s see ...

And here are mine…

 By: KMII : July 15th, 2023-05:47
It all started - just like my time here - with Chopard. The LUC Chrono One was my first serious watch and the appreciation for the brand remains. They do many less visible or glamorous things, such as a service turnaround in two weeks as opposed to the nu...

Tough challenge my friend,

 By: Watchonthewrists : July 15th, 2023-08:11
not easy to pick just a few fav brands as most of us think the brands in there collection are most of the time there fav I guess. Like some of you know i love Independent brands and with a few of them i have a special relationship . CvdK A brand that star...

Would expect nothing else but a collection of independents from you 😊👍🏻

 By: KMII : July 15th, 2023-10:37
And the selection is delectable, as expected. I guess the reasons will be similar - a much closer relationship, and more experimentation 👍🏻

I can easily understand you Watchonthewrists when you say that it is not easy to choose the brands we love among so many wonderful pieces you own.

 By: Subexplorer : July 15th, 2023-20:12
Your choices to answer our Host KM theme is fantastic and it would be impossible for me to choose just one watch among them. But if I were pressed to choose one I would go for your DB in your second shot, pink/salmon dial and blued hand set makes it irres...

Thanks for the nice words dear Abel 🙏🏻🤗

 By: Watchonthewrists : July 16th, 2023-07:13
The DB27 is indeed a special watch for me .

Tremendous selection of independent watches …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : July 16th, 2023-10:10
and the collecting journey they represent.

What a great selection dear KM. As usual the original beauty of your watches is enhanced by your exquisite choice of straps. All lovely watches but I´m specially fond of your Chopard...

 By: Subexplorer : July 15th, 2023-20:07
... and Grand Seiko. GS dials are always awesome! I´m sharing in a post below my own choices which I hope you´ll approve. Enjoy your weekend my dear friend. Best, Abel

Ah, but it’s always in the eyes (and the wrist) of the beholder, Abel! 😊👍🏻

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-05:31
Thanks so much for your kind words 🙏🏻 I am absolutely certain, though that I will approve, even if it is primarily the posters who need to be happy with their own choices 😊

I love the variety of your choices …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : July 16th, 2023-10:13
and reading your thoughts on Grand Seiko.

Different than your take?

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-12:19
I find they are still in the process of finding their place. The movement finishing initially wasn’t exactly top notch but then given that to an extent they saw themselves competing with brands that didn’t bother about it, either 🤷🏻‍♂️ Their case finishin...

Hmmhh !.. A bit late this time.. but let me see how to play..

 By: hs111 : July 16th, 2023-11:41
😉 I‘ll focus on just 4 brands, JLC, as my main collection topic, then Rolex, PP and finally although small in numbers – Breguet.. Fine and cool choice.. The Triple Calendars always have been a strength of JLC Simply a classic — Geophysic Reverso Duo Face ...

How could we not like them? 👍🏻👏🏻👌🏻

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-12:21
Sublime choices from four truly classic brands! Your JLC collection is superb (missing the Duometre here), wasn’t aware that the 5172 joined your collection (congratulations) and the Rolex and Breguet collections of yours have some true classics 👌🏻👍🏻 ...

Thx a lot, dear KMII for kind looking and the nice comments !

 By: hs111 : July 16th, 2023-12:31
As far as the Duometre is concerned, you are right, it might as well have appeared here, as yes, it is a piece near to my heart, but there had to be a limit, as I didn‘t wanr to „ramble“ around.. I liked your examples as well, the Chopard LUC Chrono Flyba...

And their recent launches are pretty cool…

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-13:51
Habring2 I mean. The Duometre is one of the few launches from a major brand in the last years that I really found exciting and fresh 👌🏻👍🏻

JLC, Rolex, Breguet, PP… your favorite and signature brands in your wonderful collection …

 By: Subexplorer : July 16th, 2023-15:58
… dear friend HS!! And within these four emblematic brands you own several Masterpieces like that delicious 6542 GMT, that unique Type XX, Aquanaut and 5172 chrono or charming Explorer duo. Not to mention Reverso and Geophysic and Alarm JLC’s to complete ...

Great theme this weekend. Funny enough i think my favorite brand is one I only own one reference so far as it is no longer sold in my country. Lange is by far my favorite brand.

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : July 15th, 2023-11:42
I love their movement, finishing, case and dial design…they just sing to me. Next is Longines! Love most of their recent release as they package a lot of value and they fund to wear with their often vintage inspired release. Lastly, yes I know I must admi...

Lange and Longines! Two great watch brands. I join you on your love for Longines and though I specially like the vintage models, I agree that the brand has been making a great job...

 By: Subexplorer : July 15th, 2023-20:16
... in the last years offering very tempting reissues of past designs in their present catalog. Of course you know about my long standing love for the Rolex brand of which you own some great representatives of their catalog. Keep enjoying so much your col...

A wow as always from you 🤩👏🏻👍🏻

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-05:36
Before I start with the comments - Lange has started leaving markets? 😱 It certainly makes for a wonderful, classical choice, movement and dial side and certainly one you can hardly go wrong with 👌🏻 Love how Longines is harvesting its very rich heritage a...

I see - was aware they were thinking of all boutique…

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-12:22
But that they are going fully down that route and are happy to lose customers in the process, well… 🤷🏻‍♂️

Your love for Longines…

 By: Cpt Scarlet : July 16th, 2023-10:16
Is refreshing in a complex market for brands. The brand has a rich history that deserves to be revived and rediscovered.

Hi KM.

 By: Timeout : July 15th, 2023-13:54
I’m going to have to go with the brand where I have made the greatest number of purchases - seems logical to me - Lange. I’ve also managed to lay my hands on a 1st generation Datograph - incoming. ...

Hello Timeout! You are sharing your watches from your favorite brand in some stunning shots here. The finishing and design of the movements you show here is breathtaking as...

 By: Subexplorer : July 15th, 2023-20:26
... it is usual in the Lang watches. Regret to say I still lack of a watch from this brand in my collection but I hope to fill the gap some day soon. They really are wonderful timepieces. Thank you for sharing here! Hagwe, Abel

You and me both, Abel 😊🤞🏻

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-05:39
Any contenders for the title of first Lange for you?

I do actually - three that could qualify…

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-13:55
Zeitwerk being one, Cabaret the second and Richard Lange the third 👌🏻👍🏻

Ahh! ok. These are three very interesting watches to enter in the Lange world. I specially find the Zeitwerk fascinating and the Cabaret so charming.

 By: Subexplorer : July 17th, 2023-13:35
I wish you will jump into the Lange world soon my dear friend. Cross my fingers for you. Cheers, Abel

Thanks Abel.

 By: Timeout : July 16th, 2023-13:32
There’s plenty to choose from within the Lange family. The consistency of the finishing on all is impressive. You can’t really go wrong with any of the choices - even if you stray off the beaten track as I did with my choice of the Saxonia Annual Calendar...

One heavy hitter after another 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-05:39
You start right off with my favorite from the brand, the Zeitwerk. Not that there’s anything to be faulted with the rest but this has always struck me as the true genius 🤩👌🏻👍🏻

Many thanks KM.

 By: Timeout : July 16th, 2023-13:44
The striking time is a real star! It wears well - even at 44mm+. The consistency of the beauty of the movements is impressive. Even the Saxomat - which doesn’t get as much love as others - has attention to detail that you just don’t see from other brands ...

I can get my three favorites . . .

 By: Dr No : July 15th, 2023-18:23
. . . in one photo. Dornblüth: a micro-manufacturer that offers aesthetic appeal and value . . . no mean feat. Grand Seiko: the manufacturer that offers exceptional finishing at reasonable cost . . . again, no mean feat. Omega: the symbol - Ω - says it al...

Well played dear Art. I was sure you were bringing the name Omega to your list but must agree with you regarding Grand Seiko. Regret to say I have no personal experience with the brand...

 By: Subexplorer : July 15th, 2023-20:21
... Dornbluth but I can say the looks of your watch is very tempting. Regrettably living in my Country makes very difficult to reach many interesting brands that collectors of other parts of the world can enjoy with ease. Thank you for sharing them here! ...

Dornblüth's construction quality is exceptional . . .

 By: Dr No : July 15th, 2023-20:29
. . . and the level of customization offered extensive. Not for everyone, but those drawn to them are devoted. On my way to my cue maker's shop to repair the most recent acquisition, Abel - it was built with an experimental modification that requires tend...

I would love to view these watches in the metal dear Art.

 By: Subexplorer : July 15th, 2023-23:43
Yours looks so charming and classic. Hopefully your cue maker will be able to fix any problem with your new cue. Good luck with it! Have a nice weekend too! Best cordial regards Abel

And the people behind it are truly nice!

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-05:44
Only had the pleasure once but the depth of dedication to their craft was palpable 👌🏻👍🏻

I’m sure I would!!

 By: Subexplorer : July 16th, 2023-21:25

Would have picked these three if anyone was to ask about your preferences 😉

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-05:42
And your explanation says it all 👍🏻 But getting back to another brand you used to be bonded to - how has your opinion of GO evolved and what would you say of their current lineup?

I'm still fond of GO production from the first decade of the millenium . . .

 By: Dr No : July 16th, 2023-06:06
. . . but wish their product development had been slower and more linear in the ensuing years. I still think they make the best practical perpetual calendars, but I've changed - the complication no longer appeals to me. There's still one I would acquire u...

Any direction especially?

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-06:51
Lovely piece indeed! How are their PCs for setting (i.e. if not constantly worn or on a winder)?

GO's perpetuals are easy to set, taking no more than a few minutes from a cold start . . .

 By: Dr No : July 16th, 2023-15:55
. . . and I wouldn't recommend keeping one on a winder for extended periods as the wear and tear will lead to premature mechanical issues. As for the direction their product development evolved, my sense is that they reached far and wide but not deep. I'm...

Three choices …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : July 16th, 2023-10:27
That cover practically any real world scenario. Good call Art.

Those are wonderful, Art.

 By: gpinto75 : July 16th, 2023-15:18
I've wanted to try a Dornbluth for years. Your posts are motivating me to try harder. Thank you.

The experience dealing with Dirk and his team . . .

 By: Dr No : July 16th, 2023-15:39
. . . is a pleasure and a half. If you've ever wanted to have input in the design of a watch, they're the guys to go to. Dials, hands, movement finishing . . . all's up to your personal preference. Art

My favorite brand

 By: gpinto75 : July 15th, 2023-18:56
Two so far, but it's early in the relationship. Thanks for hosting, KM. HAGWE, all. ...

Hello Greg! Welcome to WS. Nice to have you participating.

 By: Subexplorer : July 15th, 2023-23:26
Two beautiful Moser watches you share. They have such a distinctive design and awesome dials. Ate you planning a new addition to your Moser collection? Keep enjoying and loving them so much! Best cordial regards Abel

It's nice to be here.

 By: gpinto75 : July 16th, 2023-00:08
Thank you, Abel. Moser makes at least a handful that I'd like someday to add if things allow that. Perhaps something from the Streamliner or Heritage lines. We'll see. My best o you, too. Greg

The shots are sublime!

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-05:46
And you have chosen some of the choicer morsels from them, too! In addition to following their own marketing moniker of very rare, they really make some fine, innovative choices 👌🏻👍🏻

Thank you, KM.

 By: gpinto75 : July 16th, 2023-07:00
I agree: the innovation, quality, style, limited production, and attitude of Moser have made the brand my favorite. As for the shots, I appreciate you kind words and thank goodness for the great cameras on smart phones. Have a wonderful weekend.

Fabulous ! …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : July 16th, 2023-10:30
and I concur with you ;-) … ...

A lovely specimen 👌🏻👍🏻

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-14:54
Love their ‘sterile’ dials 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Your Laguna Blue Endeavour is spectacular, Captain.

 By: gpinto75 : July 16th, 2023-15:06
I appreciate your encouraging words. Thank you.

My pleasure …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : July 16th, 2023-19:04
Great watches !

Breguet is always one of my favorites!

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : July 15th, 2023-19:09
Breguet Marine Chronograph in the rain Breguet Marine by the Lion’s Gate Secret Signature ...

Beautiful timepieces from Breguet you share Spangles.

 By: Subexplorer : July 15th, 2023-23:36
These are timeless watches which connect with classic designs of its prestigious past. I like this brand so much for that. The Secret Signature is a charming detail as well. I feel that the watch you show with this traditional feature deserves a full shot...

Beautiful indeed!

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-05:48
And so distinctive irrespective of the trends. Really enjoy that aspect of them. Hopefully someday I will join you there 👌🏻👍🏻🤞🏻

Hello dear friend KM! Thank you for hosting this weekend.

A great Theme we haven’t explored before. My first love with a watch brand when I was a lad in the early 1960’s is Rolex. A love I have kept since today in spite that I’m disappointed with their present marketing policy which makes so difficult to get the...

Wonderful collection of classics

 By: gpinto75 : July 15th, 2023-21:52
They're fantastic, Abel. Greg

Thank you so much for your kind compliments Greg!

 By: Subexplorer : July 15th, 2023-23:38
Appreciate them so much. Have a nice weekend! Abel

Well deserved. You, too.

 By: gpinto75 : July 16th, 2023-00:09

Thank you again! Cheers!

 By: Subexplorer : July 16th, 2023-01:27

Like with Art, the brands are so thoroughly associated with you that there are no surprises there 😊

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-06:49
The one thing I do not get is that the current marketing practices of one of the three discriminate even against long term loyal customers like you - hard to fathom the logic there. The pieces shown are sublime and great (in some cases also physically 😉) ...

Thank you so much for your kind comments dear KM. You certainly make the point here with one of my favorite brands. Specially disappointing in guy like me having followed the brand...

 By: Subexplorer : July 16th, 2023-13:46
... for many decades during which you could visit an AD of the brand and find any model you choose at retail... and even with discounts! Lol! This drastically changed in the last say five or six years ago of course. Thank you so much for your kind complim...

Good old days…

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-14:55
Sadly I don’t see them returning any time soon 🤷🏻‍♂️

Big truth… sadly!

 By: Subexplorer : July 16th, 2023-15:59

Hello, as always dear Abel !.. You did it again, in a great way by your nice line–up !

 By: hs111 : July 16th, 2023-12:13
I know your Rolexes next to your Omegas are central collecting themes, not to forget Panerai, of course. Your first shot of this great Omega Seamaster is compelling, so as also the Sub 5513 plus a Bubbleback; – I realized already in the past, how well you...

Thank you so much for your always so kind viewing and commenting my entries dear friend HS.

 By: Subexplorer : July 16th, 2023-13:50
I´m happy to know you liked both my favorites and the shots I choose to share them. I find a great satisfaction wearing my watches and much pleasure and joy playing with them while making pictures. Enjoy your Sunday dear friend and have a great week ahead...

Great choices …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : July 16th, 2023-16:35
We share so much love for these brands. I must redress the balance and mention Panerai …. ...

Favourite? Ah, such a nuanced word!...

 By: pplater : July 16th, 2023-05:43
Just about any brand that is an independent brand, an eponymous brand, is a 'favourite' because of the artisanship and tradition that they represent. And of the modern-day independents, those who spring to mind as the preferred house aesthetic include Duf...

😂😂😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-06:54
For many of us there’s the same driver, when it comes to this particular brand 😊👍🏻 And what a lovely collection you show here! I know it’s sometime like choosing your favorite child but which of the pieces do you like the best?

Each brings something different to the table…

 By: pplater : July 16th, 2023-07:15
The MUT is iconic, and this WG/ruthenium combination is unusual. The TTPs have the Amanico special sauce, and matching numbers. The Amvox was incredibly expensive, because of course it was necessary to buy the matching car. The one that gets most wrist ti...

And we don’t blame him for it 😂👍🏻🙏🏻

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-09:11
One he convinced me of 😉👍🏻 ...

Some great choices - the Ultra thin & multiple Polaris are very cool 😎

 By: jml_watches : July 16th, 2023-13:05
I'm with you on the Memovox too - but then I am biased Cheers JML

Difficult choice

 By: jml_watches : July 16th, 2023-07:42
Hi All Difficult choice - but I'd definitely include JLC But also Oris, this one you don't even need to see the name And Seiko I could go on Cheers JML ...

The good thing of being here for a long time…

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-09:16
Is that there are few surprises in this category 😊👍🏻 Great trio of brands and some fantastic specimen to show. The only thing I am surprised by is that in the Seiko segment you didn’t show the Urushi 😁👍🏻

Urushi follow up

 By: jml_watches : July 16th, 2023-10:54
Was taken by the beer n watch montage - here's the Urushi 🙂 Cheers JML ...

A watch so fitting…

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-12:24
And some lovely shots of it, too 👍🏻👌🏻

Thanks 🙂

 By: jml_watches : July 16th, 2023-12:29

This is still my favorite brand 😊

 By: 1WatchMan : July 16th, 2023-10:25
...

That’s one of the first entries with a one brand focus 👌🏻👍🏻

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-12:25
Great collection, and shots, too 👌🏻👍🏻

Thanks, my friend 🙏

A. Lange & Söhne

 By: Saxon : July 16th, 2023-11:11
is my favourite brand by far. Unfortunately it turned out to be a unrequited love lately. ...

So it seems that this unrequited love is a more common feature with the brand?

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-12:26
That’s unfortunate to hear because the watches are sublime indeed - great shots 👌🏻👍🏻

Thanks, K.

 By: Saxon : July 16th, 2023-15:31
At least I have a few watches from the good old times on my wish list.

It’s all about the journey …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : July 16th, 2023-11:55
Hello dear KM and friends, The journey with different watch brands has been a interesting and varied journey. Going back in in time my favourite brand was Rolex. I loved everything the Rolex brand stood for. One example of this was the support they gave a...

Thanks for the stories to go with your brand choices, Captain 👍🏻👌🏻

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-12:32
Brands go through some cycles and the example you gave of Rolex is sadly no longer something one could contemplate nowadays. Although my loyalty to a brand would be very high indeed if things like that we’re still around 👌🏻👍🏻

Hello dear Captain. Great shots illustrating your choices of brands. It´s always interesting to know the collecting journey of our friends and compare with our own journey.

 By: Subexplorer : July 16th, 2023-14:10
Interests in different brands evolve as we make the long long trip through the endless horological land. Thank you for sharing with us. Enjoy your weekend my dear friend. Cheers, Abel

Here are mine…

 By: Jp75 : July 16th, 2023-12:09
A favourite of mine is definitively Vacheron Constantin. I finally came to Vacheron rather late in my watch journey, having first ‘discovered’ Patek and AP … and finally converged on VC. With their neo-vintage watches … .. their chronos … … and the versat...

Great selection 👌🏻

I have got into VC late too, but loving it a lot

Two more specials…

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-13:48
I will start with the latter - the need for a certain stealth I can fully understand, one reason that drew me to Chopard early on. Really like your BPs and they truly make for understated yet horologically very fulfilling companions 👍🏻👌🏻 I have a very sof...

1972 Prestige de La France?

 By: Jp75 : July 16th, 2023-14:31
Very nice and rarely seen model you have here: is that a 1972 Prestige, isn’t? I don’t recall having ever seen once in the metal. 💭 🤔 🧐 Jerome

It is the 1972 indeed!

 By: KMII : July 16th, 2023-14:50
There was a time that it was intensely ‘disliked’ - i.e. VC had a really hard time moving them. Now that it’s gone (no longer part of the catalog AFAIK) there is more demand 😂🤷🏻‍♂️ Very happy to have gotten it back in 2019. If your travels take you to Ger...

Many thanks for your kind offer to see for real that very special watch. Might take you on that offer one day as (southern) Germany is one of the places we call home! Wishing you a good start into the week and lot of fun with the 1972! Cheers, Jerome

Very hard decision

Thanks you

AP are good looking , and hope they will bring back Jules or Edward series which are very mesmerizing in my opinions

One among many brands I like. An Omega. Reminiscent of a past model of the nineties. ...

Very nice indeed 👌🏻👍🏻

Four beauties. Enjoy.

Great passion for the brand 😊👍🏻

 By: KMII : July 17th, 2023-07:35
It’s nice to have both here - those for whom it’s clearly only one brand and those where it’s a handful 🙌🏻
