Badollet at BaselWorld 2012
My favorite at this years fair was this Badollet tourbillon. Badollet initially started several years ago with several very nice watches, but it was unfortunately timed exactly together with the financial crisis and really didn't fly. They have now done a reset and are starting out anew with this tourbillon in a curved movement and case named "Ivresse". The design was done by the well know deigner Eric Giroud the movement by David Candaux from JLC minute repeater fame. Mr. Candaux has left JLC and is on his one doing movement design. His father is the watchmaker who is assembling and adjusting the watches.
This watch is elegence incarnate. It just hugs to your wrist and takes a peak out from under your cuff. Both the case and the movement are curved, arched to fit the wrist. This greatly increases the complexity of the movement design as the axles are no longer parallel. I guess it doesn't help during the movement assembly either. The gears are all conical to maintain a good power transfer.
Note some of the nice movement design touches, the tourbillin bridge in the form of the infinity charactor, the ratchet for barrel winding at the interior of the ratchet wheel.
The dial is a brushed dark blue with a silber chapter ring which exudes calm and tranquillity. This is one of Mr. Giroud's best designs ever.
Just so your wife allows you to make this purchase Badollet has also thought of her and designed this unassuming little bracelet, diamonds, saphires, etc. On your evening out everyone will remark her good fortune, while you will know who really has the good fortune.
