Thank you Don! More infos about the Saturn

Hi everyone,

My name is Etienne Deschamps and I am the co-founder of AkriviA.

First of all, I would like to say thank you to Don Corson for his article! It was a real pleasure to meet Don and present him the prototype of our first watch as well as talking and discovering his own creations!

Secondly, I wanted to give you some more details about the Saturn. It's true, the principle of the movement has already been seen in other brands. We have choosen to launch our first watch using the basis of a known movement which works well and has really good performances. From that point, if you look closer to the movement, you'll discover that we have worked together MHC to change many parts of the movement. AkriviA's Chronograph Tourbillon has a new tourbillon cage and a new escapement wheel. The chronograph wheels have a news design sign by AkriviA. If you look at the back of the movement, you see our 3/4 plate barrel bridge which makes the movement stronger and helps it to be less sensitive to shocks.

We have made changes to numerous components of the movements. The finishing of the movement are really high. We do all of them by hand. As an example, we have 36 inward angles. 10 of them are on the tourbillon cage. All our steel components of the movement are mirror polished. All the engravings have been done by hand by our engraver. We have done all of that because we wanted to show our vision and our love for the fine watchmaking.

The design of the watch is a two years work with a talented designer to express our vision of watchmaking. We want to establish our design as the identity of the brand for our next creations.

I hope I have got the chance to explain a bit more what we are doing and what we want to do in the year coming.

Don't hesitate to give me feedbacks about the Saturn or ask me any questions about our watch and company.

Best regards,
Etienne

BaselWorld 2013 : Akrivia The minds behind the new brand Akrivia are the young watchmakers Rexhep Rexhepi and Etienne Deschamps. I had the pleasure of meeting them and seeing their first production, the Saturn tourbillon chronograph at BaselWorld. Both Re...

made for Hublot, RJ, F. Villa for instance. Not very original to recycle an "old" movement like that... Not sure either if this is enough to successfully launch a new brand.

A good startup in my view

Hi Goldenlutin, Correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I can tell nearly every young brand/maker - including some now very well known and/or famous ones i know - started exactly like this. So what? It ain't easy to gather the several millions needed for ...

I see things a bit differently...

Hello Theodore, Well, IMHO the now most successeful watchmakers/small brands started with something personal/unique: FP Journe, Urwerk, MB&F, Laurent Ferrier, Richard Mille, Gerber, Daniels, Smith, Dufour. Well some if not all might have used some exi...

No problem, I understand what you are saying of course, but it is interesting to see how we all view things from different angles/perspectives. You brought up some interesting examples indeed; just for fun may I give my 'angle' on your list for a moment? ...

well...

Hi Theodore, Well, I actually had not Voutilainen on my list :), because he always uses old ébauches (Peseux 260, VJ, etc.) Regarding Daniels I was more thinking at his wonderfull pocket watches (like the Space Traveller), which are definitively not based...

From a design standpoint, I'm really fond of the case. The attention paid to the case finishing really elevates the design in my opinion. Photos can be deceptive, but the legibility of the main hands would be my main concern. The main hands are very close...
