Independent Watchmaking and those brave souls for whom their life's work is dedicated to creating, continuing and furthering the artistry of hand made mechanical watchmaking.
Thank you. Not sure it was that amazing, however I'll happily take it ;) Sorry not to respond til now, am in Basel and just logged on to PuristpPro. Enjoyed good times last night with our very own MTF and Magnus! Cheers, Tim
It will be an adventure of a life time. You can make as simple or as complicated as you want. Your tastes will change and mature with time so don\'t rush take your time. Bill
You must take it a as compliment, Bill! ( ...if that's how you read it :-) ) It's been said so many times, but there's a reason for that: the friendships that emerge from here really are gold. Cheers, pplater.
I agree we do cultivate some interesting friendships like pen pals of bygone years. Lucky for us we can doi the everyday by just sneaking a few minutes or "more" everyday and do it with a smile know that many are enjoying the same friendships though not y...
The exponential difference enlivened by technology on sites such as this, though, is that one can make and keep up with many friends across the globe: having that many 'pen-pals' in the days of yore would have induced terminal writer's cramp and postage-b...
...who spends more time at GTG's with his fan club than he does at the office! (Given the chance, who wouldn't?) Love your work, Nico. Cheers, pplater.
..to say "Don't get carried away" !!! And orange being taken? First: ROFLMAO! Second: who would have guessed? BTW, did you ever tell us WHY orange? Cheers, pplater.
The journey is bringing us from one watch to another in a quite random way. The accumulation of these experiences defines our tastes and next steps. Nice topic Pplater. Cheers, Mark
or becoming somebody else. There are many "out there" who want to buy their way into one. There are many who can easily memorize facts and number - and calibers - to become qualified experts. As for any real feelings? Sorry, it's just me again, Walter Whi...
...around the watch in the show, all in the cause of product placement. Has any watch been as heavily 'placed' over the years as the Monaco? Cheers, pplater.
According to Ariel Adams of ablogtowatch, Tag Heuer was approached by somebody on behalf of the prop department of Breaking Bad. "T his was not a paid placement" - according to someone Ariel had contacted himself at Tag Heuer. Whatever the agreement, the ...
you lose interest and emotion for a watch you have, let it go. Don't let it sit around in a safe or drawer. Recycle it. Find a new watch to cherish, and let the watch you liquidate be someone else's happiness. All the best H.
A very wise prescription - it is all too easy to lose sight of 'restraint' and become unduly possessive at the expense of moderation. Now, please 'walk the talk' and liquidate your sensational filigree dial Patek in this direction! :-) Cheers, pplater.
in this piece are still very much strong. While I can't imagine letting it go,ever, I would be happy to share more pictures. Thanks for your kind words Pplater! All the best H.
try this link. As far as the story of the watch, purely by chance and a few months after basel 2012 I came across a small blue book highlighting the novelties for that year. I remember it was dome clocks and some other pieces, and then towards the end th...
and I will send one of my interesting "safe queen" watches back. But can I bear to part with them? What kind of collector would I be then? I think of watches like they are my children and I am their dad... (Note to would-be collectors: beware this is madn...
to you and u still enjoy the watch then don't recycle. When on starts the journey of watch collecting they may Make a choice which does not hold the same feeling, as ones taste and collection develops. I know I have made a few of those choices on my journ...
(Art! What on Earth do you think you're doing??? This is ONE secret we shouldn't be sharing with anyone!) "He didn't mean that folks; move on, there's nothing to see here. Just poor old Art, rambling again". ;-) Cheers, pplater.
Others' opinions are all well and good, but ultimately you've got to live with the piece on your wrist, so find your sweet spot. It's easy to get caught up in what other people are buying, but I think you get the greatest satisfaction from wearing watches...
Hey Daos, where've you been? How've you been? Hopefully all is well in your universe? Great to see you posting - and posting such erudite thoughts. Cheers, pplater.
I've seen better times but I surely seen worst times Last year was pretty demanding .....mentally All is well now Post some more dear Daos don't be a stranger ;) Yours Damjan
I have been very fortunate to find a dealer who: 1. started showing me watches that cost 250x years ago, when I was buying watches that cost 10x, and when he already knew I would never be a 250x guy, just to help me learn what the real limits of our share...
That falls into the category of "you know you've made it when..." Kudos to your dealer. We may have to start a thread of 'great dealer stories' - what do you think? Cheers, pplater.
but here's a few I picked up along the way. These mostly relate to vintage watches. Better to have the part and search for the watch, than have the watch and search for the part. If the mark on the dial bothers you when you buy it, in a year from now you ...
follow your nature and your passion. I read a similar post at the very beginning of my journey. It advised about starting win small, humble pieces and powering up/ upgrading gradually etc. I did just the opposite. That very first piece set the tone for th...
...but one more if I may add. Whenever you make the leap and buy your first "real" piece... make sure to KEEP IT! Your first love years later might look like the worst purchase of your life, but one day it will be fun to laugh at yourself and wonder, WHAT...
Bought it the first time used for $2100, sold it for $2400 a year later and thought I was a genius... buying a watch and making money on some watch no one had ever heard of! Fast forward 10 years and I bought another PAM27C for "only" $4,800. ...
Importantly, you 'still' have the watch: it must have been worth it, or presumably you wouldn't have gone back for a second bite. A small price to pay for being an 'early adopter'! :-) Thanks for sharing. Cheers, pplater.
