Le Club Horloger Event, Shanghai, with Martin Pauli

Sep 27, 2013,04:42 AM

I had the distinct pleasure of being invited to an event organized by Le Club Horloger on 27th September.

Le Club Horloger has recently established their club house and office in Shanghai, and now count eight Independent Masters of Watchmaking as their members.

In the presence of the Cultural Counselor of the Swiss Consulate and the Deputy Mayor of Shanghai, we were treated to an exhibition of exquisite timepieces, each hand crafted by Martin Pauli himself at his Bern based Atelier, Angular Momentum & Manu Propria.

For more on Angular Momentum, please visit Don Corson's wonderful report  "A visit to Angular Momentum - Manu Propria"

Martin Pauli was extremely gracious in sharing his knowledge and experience, and it is truly remarkable to understand that he is very much a one man show, involved in every step of hand crafting timepieces that are each unique unto themselves. It was an incredible display of passion for this multi talented Master.

My humble photos of these watches, taken quickly with my trusty Leica D-LUX 5, hardly do justice to these miniature works of art. I was truly in awe of the beauty expressed in each dial.

Many thanks to Sofia, Ivan, and Jacqueline for organizing this wonderful event on a bright sunny late Summer day here in Shanghai.

Your "humble" photos are great. Martin Pauli has many skills, his watches are all little works of art in more than one way. For a look in his shop, click here Don

Thanks Don

Martin Pauli was an incredibly charismatic gentleman. He is the type of person who could, I imagine, excel in absolutely any profession had he not veered almost accidentally into watchmaking. With his skill set, many self taught, and many garnered during ...

...just keeps evolving and getting better with time. Certainly not for everyone, but for those that appreciate the artistic and design aspect they are very nice. Here are two pieces he made for me some years ago. ...

Excellent

Thanks for posting. Two very beautiful dials. One really does appreciate the artistic input that Mr. Pauli puts into every single dial making each watch have its own unique identity. Dean

Thanks Dean...

I almost wish I hadn't gone to the event as his pieces have started to haunt me. I have probably spent a couple of hours already on his website looking at the various dials and options for bespoke. This one really struck me with an arrow to the shoulder. ...
