The Mighty BLU Tourbillon at the YTL Starhill Fair

A few days ago, I had to choose what would be the mightiest, most desirable watch that would dominate a fair.

It was the Starhill Fair in malaysia that took place over the last week.

I arrived in time to look thru the entire collection and display...jetlagged from a flight from Rome.

YTL is a huge conglomerate. Lead by, IMHO, one of the most astute business leaders in the world, Tan Sri (Dr) Francis Yeoh.

The exhibition saw over 100 watch brands exhibiting their high-end watches and jewellery to the public. Principles, ambassadors and watchmakers flew in from all parts of the world to join in this exhibition. Many worlds’ first and Asian premieres were launched during the fair and guests were amazed by the chance to witness such an opportunity right here in Malaysia.

I saw a grand show, a grand fair, incredible atmosphere, and a most awesome grand gala dinner within the Ritz Carlton.

The Blu Tourbillon was hands down, the most incredible watch that will take on the Opus 5 and several other majestic works..namely the Freak Blue Phantom, and the classic lines of the JLC Doumetre.

The pics taken by Kong are superb.

The watch will cost 3x the price of Opus 5.

And 6x the price of the MBF1.

For the curious...the link below shows us the synopsis of the YTL event.

The watch is a solid block of platinum,

The time is simple..note the small arrow at the tip of the balance?

It is 3 :50pm. That was the time.

Every rivet/screw is real, and goes thru the top to the bottom.

The crystal covers the "bezel".

The case band is composed half of sapphire, and the lower half, platinum.

The feel of "air" and "transparency" of the dance in the tourbillon as it swings and moves around is not a matter of taste, but really one of varying degrees of simple beauty.

I could not congratulate both Bernhard and his wife enough, for contributing this piece to horology...it is a contribution..not a work of commercial gain. In the following months, I will explain why, I felt that this watch, would have been the most likely Opus projects for Harry Winston.

Among so many incredibly beautiful watches we saw...this watch , if price is no object, is THE watch. Sadly, commercial reality forced many to buy Pateks.
