Baselworld 2009 - Fabrication De Montres Normandes

Apr 01, 2009,06:14 AM

This years discovery at the fair, the Fabrication de Montres Normandes.
17mm balances at 18000 bpm, tourbillon or constant force escapements.
Beautiful big watches.

And now for the real red meat.
Below we see a proto of the movement that they will be submitting to this years Concours de Chronometrie,
a constant force escapement with 2 escape wheels and 3 anchors.
Take a good look.
Fabrication de Montres Normandes founder Karsten Frasdorf says he doesn't think they have a chance to win this year, but this is a strategic interest for him.  He is giving all his watchmakers the challenge and the time to improve on this movement.  He expects to have a friendly in house competition and several possible serious contenders for the chronometry trials in the next couple of years.
We will be following their exploits with great interest!

And it's nice to see a back-to-basics approach to the dial & form, no see-through dials or ridiculous showiness. Also, most exciting is this constant force escapement- I can't wait to see what's under the hood here! Most interesting is the idea of a c...
