Scenes from an Italian Diner (Dinner in Sydney with Peter Speake-Marin)

Oct 07, 2010,07:06 AM

Thanks to a friend I made through this forum, I was fortunate enough to be invited to have dinner with Peter Speake-Marin a few hours ago. Peter is in Sydney for 24 hours as part of his whirlwind world tour currently.

Here are some photos. Please forgive the quality as the photos were taken in a darkened dining room and I didn't have a flash unit so there is a little motion blur.

We had the entire ground level of the restaurant for the function.

A long menu made for some difficult choices...

My weapon of choice for the evening...

I was fortunate to be seated next to Peter. A very friendly and interesting man. Great conversation flowed.

He made a point to ask if "pplater" was there. Sadly, no....

A few of Peter's friends came along. No strangers to members of this forum...

They fit my smallish wrist very well...

I could get used to this very easily...

Of course, what would a Purists post be without a few food shots.

My first course was Hiramasa Kingfish tartare...

My second course was Vincisgrassi (porcini mushroom, prosciutto, parmesan and truffle lasagne)...

My desert was a delicious Meringue...

Peter made a short 10 second speech at the end of the evening...

Barely any time to get a good shot.

Overall a very enjoyable evening with new friends.Very happy to have met you Peter.

Thanks for looking.

Regards,
Richard.

Thanks so much for coming, and I am glad that you had a good time. It was an enjoyable evening indeed, Peter Speake-Marin as charming and funny as he was when we met him last year. Unexpectedly, I found the new Thalassa quite different in the flesh to wha...

Look forward to your photos....

It helps that I don't usually work on fridays so I was able to put the photos together. Interesting that you were Tweeting Peter's wife whilst you were talking to Peter. Modern technology, huh. Regards, Richard.

guilty as charged

Yes it was a happy coincidence that Daniela was online and on twitter at that time, so I thought that it would be fun to tell her what was happening. Gotta love modern technology I tweeted a little for those Melbourne guys on twitter who will be at Peter'...

Having a blast ...

The Melbourne dinner starts in 45 minutes. Great to see the coverage from last night. I spent a few hours with Peter today and he is a great guy - and a true Purist when it comes to his watchmaking. More coverage and an interview to follow ... Andrew

Thanks for sharing

It helps that I don't usually work on fridays. Let me know if you eventually get this camera format and I can let you know about these old cine lenses that I use. Regards, Richard.

Instantly recognisable...

Upon seeing it in person it immediately appeared distinctive and recognisable as a PSM watch, which I believe was Peter's intent. With the way my eyesight is, I find the seconds rotor a bit hard to read but that is not a significant concern. Its design is...

It has Peter's DNA

Hi Alex, peters's watches are very unique. You can see the progression from the picadilly to the thalasa but you know it is a PSM just like you can pick a Porsche 911 in the car park in its different variants over the years. The new manual movement which to...

I really like the new Thalassa!

Very unique, and stands apart from the crowd in a good way. I am hoping to meet PSM at some point, as I've long admired his watches. He's a rock star! Thanks for the coverage, Richard! I bet everyone had a grand time, and the food looked tasty! Cheers, Da...

Great night it was Daos...
