1st Vacheron

Last week was quite crazy in additions to my collection (and subtractions to my wallet 😅)

I posted the history of 2 other purchases on the links bellow

While I was visiting this other branch of my AD to meet the manager and pick up the Tag, I noticed on the window an Overseas with a reserved sign.

I’ve been interested in this watch for a long time and even though we have a Vacheron boutique in my city and I got invited to a couple of their events, they were always very evasive regarding the time only Overseas.

Last year I tried to buy the American 36 in rose gold, not only because I like the watch but also as a step towards assuring the Overseas. Unfortunately when they received it I was on vacation and when I returned the price had already increased. I felt it was unfair and couldn’t justify the new price (it already increased 2 or 3 times since then) and didn’t pulled the trigger. Since Vacheron seems to be pushing most of the collection towards their boutiques I thought I would never get an Overseas after that experience.

Fast forward to last week, I was surprised to see it at the AD window and we talked about it. We shared the opinion that Richemont seems to be pricing most of their brands out of the market (Jaeger is another good example) and he confirmed they were getting fewer VC watches due the Boutique strategy. He also mentioned that VC was reducing production, but I didn’t understand if this was just a perception or a known fact.

In the end, I asked about the reserved sign and he told me he was saving that watch for the “right” customer. Even though this was my 1st purchase in this branch, I’ve been a client of this AD for 15 years having bough watches and other stuff regularly during this time. He finish by saying that the watch was mine if I wanted it.

This year purchases put me well above my watch budget for this year (and the next), and I felt this reference was getting truly expensive. I think last year before summer it was on the low 20s, and now it is 28k after last June increase (don’t now what was the euro price before June increase, anyone knows?).

Anyway, after a quick consideration I pulled the trigger as I really want a VC in the collection, love this reference and the way they are increasing their prices this could possibly be my last chance to get one, as I don’t like to buy on the secondary market current production pieces as I prefer the AD experience and to continue to invest in the relationship with my ADs.

Overall, I’m extremely happy with this watch!

IN ADDITION TO THE IN-HOUSE MOVEMENT, I BELIEVE THAT THE GEN 2 AND GEN 3 BRACELETS (BOTH SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT) ARE BEST OF CLASS. A GREAT TIMEPIECE.....

Congrats! I'm happy you're happy!

Personally I'm not a huge fan of the VC Overseas but I'm a huge fan of people buying what they like! And hopefully buying something not because of the name on the dial! Congrats!

What a trio

I’d pick the Overseas over the Nautilus or Royal Oak as you have more strap options and a bigger warranty. Enjoy your new watches.

I feel you. When the boutique called me, I didn’t think twice.
