And that I guess alludes to one of my points about relationships not being a sine quo non to buy a watch but in the case of independents, I think "knowing" the watch maker or the driving force behind the inspiration for eg. Max who is not the watch maker per se, weighs in a lot more when considering an indie acquisition than say a piece from a large group brand... for me at least.
Again, I ain;t sayin PP or lange has no place in a collection. It's not my place to say but for me, I am not as connected to my dato for example a lot less than I am to the small number of indies I have now ie. 1 LOL. don;t get me wrong, I love my dato and will never sell her but the level of emotional attachment is a bit less.
I would also say, not all indies are as "personal" as say max or PSM and I can think of Moser for one. I don;t know the watch maker and for me, Moser seems much larger as an entity perceptually than say PSM or Halter but the Perpetual 1 for me is still a marvel for the movement which you have personal indulgence of. The stealth nature of the perpetual 1 for me is daring in its own way. Daring and confident in the sense that it does not have to scream out it is a perpetual with tons of dials all over. It knows and the owner knos and that is all that matters. I like that. And in that daring and confidence, I find a difference and a freshness in the Perpetual 1 as far as PCs go.
So clearly muddled definitely as I continue my horological growth but one ting I have learnt, never trust a collector when he says... : "my books are closed." I wonder who keeps sayin that LOL
