TRUE

first of all thanks for sharing . and yes i do find it very true what you've  said its about understanding the maker behind the watch what determains the true meaning of the watch it self to a collecter or a buyer.

on a personal level i do beleive it's sometimes the complication of a creators personality is seen as a charm in the timepiece created.

as i do believe in quality buisness school someday the INDEPENDET WATCHMAKING buisness and MAKERS will be taught to students, personally when i started building the plan for my own perfume brand after working for a fair time as a freelance perfumer for brands in the gulf, i went in depth into the independet watch making and makers exprince , and  it helped me much constructing the plan and the concept of my brand.

however, three great people, three astonishing brands. and a passionate watch collector posted this, so thanks for the four of you guys.

Some brief impressions of three independent watchmakers

It has often been debated, on this forum and elsewhere, what exactly independent watchmaking means. I still don’t know what it means. But I do know that understanding a timepiece from an independent watchmaker – whatever that term signifies – requires und...

er....what happen to the photos??!!!

whatever happen to your usually high standards of photography!!!look like taken from mobile. i agree with you that one core ingredient of buying independents are the "smell n feel" of the maker/brand. some get it, others dont. i love MBFs, but urwerk does...

meal with good food and good company who just also happen to be Indies. Nice to see them in a relaxed mode and mood. Looked like a great time. Thanks again for sharing...

I totally agree with your conclusion, JX

That is why, as much as I can afford, I prefer owning and wearing watches from independents. It brings watch collecting to a new level, more personal, more genuine. Emotions and information are maximized by interacting directly with the men behind the bra...

Your observations are great, and an important post to read for AHCI owners

Dear SJX, This is an important post to read for anyone thinking of buying any expensive watch, especially one that is "unique" and not for the mas market. Your words are enlightening, honest and reflective. You know why I am praising you so much? Because ...

could probably fill an entire volume of memoirs. You should start writing soon! - SJX

SJX, Bernard and those venturing into AHCI.

Not that both of you have suggested this is even the slightest way so don’t flame me J . I read your starting posts and the ensuing comments with a lot of interest and I wanted to share from a perspective of a relatively new collector (1 year 7 months plu...

Very well said and I totally agree with

your experience and your thoughts. Getting an AHCI piece is kinda finding your identity in this passionate hobby Cheers, CL

muddledly clear or clearly muddled??

 By: Hororgasm : February 1st, 2010-11:05
howdy mate, whilst i agree with you, i am finding some balance in collecting indepedents and mainstream brands, even modern time pieces and vintages. 2009 was my year of indepedents, this year, i see myself as a more mainstream man...even then...more role...

Clearly muddled in my case LOL

 By: ArthurSG : February 1st, 2010-18:16
And that I guess alludes to one of my points about relationships not being a sine quo non to buy a watch but in the case of independents, I think "knowing" the watch maker or the driving force behind the inspiration for eg. Max who is not the watch maker ...

Thanks for sharing this experience, SJX!

I know Peter quite well, but not the others -- as others have noted, wonderful to have some informal pix and reporting of your personal impressions of the men. Thanks again! Best, Gary

You should consider ...

writing as a serious career. Those words were exactly what my muddle brain had been thinking! And I think that thinking is the reason for my reluctance to purchase watches from big corporations. cen@shinjuku

It seems like each time you post on the forum

Interesting article, BUT

 By: ztirual : January 30th, 2010-00:33
but I did chocke upon reading one of your sentence, which I think is provocative and not necessary: He is still engaged and focused on his brand; you sometimes get the feeling from other independent watchmakers that they had made enough money. Do you have...

Thank you SJX....

I have read your article 3 times and each time, it gives me more urge to buy independence piece, that's bad You sure have a mind of great clarity and it's always refreshing to hear your thoughts on horological topic. Many thanks for sharing. Cheers, CL
