The Ochs und Junior watch No. 2: The Settimana Junior - Serious kid's stuff!
Dec 21, 2008,07:13 AM
Dear All:
Have you ever seen a serious watch for the youngsters? A watch which is not made in China? With traceable components, completely safe to use and representing no health hazard? A watch which would be a true companion for all your kid's adventures?
Actually, the impetus for this came from Heinz Forrer, at Vacheron Constantin responsible for the Swiss market. As Beat has two kids, Anne-Sophie and Jerome, he was immediately taken.
A few weeks after Beat told Ludwig all this, another prototype was ready! 36mm diameter, made out of antiallergic titanium, on the very same 22mm rubber strap as the MIH watch, but in bright and friendly orange:
The entire design again is Oechslin: The dials shows orange luminous numerals, which have been fashioned by Vico, on a deep dark-blue lacquered dial. The dial is the only part not made in Switzerland. It is sourced in Germany since no Swiss dial company wanted to accept a low volume order...
In the center, you'll see 7 dots indicating the weekdays. A week is the horizon which is generally relevant for children. This gave the watch its name:
Settimana Junior! Between the first and the last dot there is a groove: after the last day, the colour indicator moves quickly to the first day again...
The case is made of titanium and - like the Anno 50, crafted by Peter Cantieni. The philosophy behind is exactly the same as for that watch. On the back you see again the traces of of the machining process:
In the production watches, the back will be engraved with the kid's name, address and phone number - just in case your child was too exciting after the soccer victory if its team and finally forgot the watch in the locker room...
Finally, the presentation: For this,
Sjoerd von Rooijen drew a comic strip to explain the watch and its story for the kids:
So, that's it. Was it worth the wait? I hope so!
Have a nice weekend!
